The 26th Open Internazionale di Scacchi “Città di Crema” 2026 takes place from September 4–6, 2026, in Crema, Italy. Moreover, the tournament honors Ottavio Ravaschietto and welcomes players to three days of classical chess.

The event offers three FIDE-rated sections for different rating and age categories. Therefore, players can choose between Open A, the Over 50 Open B, and Open C. All three sections follow a six-round Swiss format.

A.S.D. Scacchi “Città di Crema” organizes the tournament at the air-conditioned Sala Agello. In addition, the event offers a total prize fund of €3,230 and space for up to 70 players.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

All three sections use the FIDE Swiss system and include six rounds. Moreover, Swiss-Manager handles the pairings and tournament administration.

Open A and Open B give each player 90 minutes for the game. In addition, players receive a 30-second increment after every move from move one.

Open C uses a shorter classical time control. Each player receives 60 minutes for the game, together with a 30-second increment from move one.

A player loses the game after arriving more than 60 minutes late. Therefore, participants should reach the playing hall well before each round.

🏆 Prize Fund

The tournament offers a total prize fund of €3,230 gross, approximately $3,680. However, winners must attend the award ceremony to collect their prizes.

Open A Prizes

Total Open A prizes: €1,205 / approx. $1,380.

Open B Prizes

Total Open B prizes: €1,205 / approx. $1,380.

Open C Prizes

Total Open C prizes: €820 / approx. $940.

The organizer publishes all prizes as gross amounts. Consequently, applicable Italian taxes may reduce the final payment.

The tournament includes three separate sections. Therefore, players should select the section that matches their rating and age.

The organizer may approve up to three wildcards for Open A players rated below 1650. Moreover, Open C accepts a maximum of 20 participants.

All three sections follow the same six-round schedule. Furthermore, all times follow local time in Crema.

Accreditation closes 15 minutes before Round 1. Therefore, players who miss the deadline may enter only after the first round.

📝 Registration

Online registration closes on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 23:50. Moreover, players receive a lower entry fee when they complete payment by August 23.

Registration Procedure

Players must complete all three registration steps:

1. Pay the entry fee by bank transfer.
2. Complete the online registration form on Vesus.
3. Send the bank-transfer receipt to the organizer by email.

Registration becomes valid only after the player completes every required step. Consequently, submitting the Vesus form alone does not confirm an entry.

Membership and FIDE ID Requirements

Italian players and foreign players who reside in Italy need a valid 2026 FSI competitive or junior membership.

Meanwhile, foreign players must obtain a FIDE identification number from their national federation before registering.

Sala Agello stands in Crema’s historic centre and forms part of the city’s civic museum complex. Moreover, the organizer will provide an air-conditioned playing hall throughout the tournament.

The central location gives players convenient access to local restaurants, cafés, and city services. Therefore, participants can remain close to the venue between the morning and afternoon rounds.

Crema railway station lies on Trenord’s R6 Cremona–Treviglio regional line. Therefore, players can reach the city from Milan, Treviglio, Cremona, and other Lombardy destinations.

Arrival Advice

Round 1 begins at 09:30 on Friday, while accreditation closes at 09:15. Therefore, players arriving on Friday morning should allow extra time for railway connections and local travel.

In addition, participants should check the current Trenord timetable before departure. Weekend engineering work may affect regional train services.

Tie-Breaks

The organizer applies the following tie-break criteria in this order:

1. Buchholz Cut 1
2. Sonneborn-Berger
3. Average Rating of Opponents

For Average Rating of Opponents calculations, the organizer treats an Italian rating as equivalent to a FIDE rating.

Pairing Allocated Bye

A Pairing Allocated Bye gives the player one point. However, the regulations do not allow a draw by forfeit.

Electronic Devices

Players must not carry mobile phones or other electronic communication devices inside the competition area. Consequently, arbiters may apply FIDE penalties when a player breaks this rule.

Smoking

The venue prohibits smoking throughout the playing area. Moreover, the restriction also covers electronic cigarettes.
