Default Time and Byes
The default time for the main classical events is 30 minutes. However, rapidplay, blitz, and rapid quad events do not use a default time. Instead, a player loses if their time expires without making a move.
Half-point byes apply only in events where the rules allow them. For example, the Championship, 50+ Championship, 65+ Championship, Junior Championships, Junior Rapidplay, Junior Blitz, Rapid Quads, and Team Blitz do not allow half-point byes.

Membership and FIDE ID

👥 Organizer
The English Chess Federation organizes the British Chess Championships 2026. The event brings the national championship program, junior championships, 50+ and 65+ championships, rating events, rapidplay, blitz, team chess, and social chess activities together on one university campus.
