Pairings use computer-assisted Swiss-system management. In addition, the Open and Rapid events count for the relevant FIDE rating lists.

Players may request up to three half-point byes in the Open. However, byes in the last two rounds score zero points.

Prize Fund Overview

The Open lists an approximate cash prize fund of €3,125, approximately US$3,625. The festival also includes Rapid cash prizes, special awards, trophies, medals, gifts, and daily board lottery prizes.

Prizes are generally not cumulative. However, Rapid prizes may be combined with Open category prizes. The best game prize is also cumulative.

Players must attend the closing ceremony to receive their prizes, unless the organizers accept a justified absence in advance.

Open Group A

Group A is for players with FIDE Standard Elo 1900 or higher on the September 2026 rating list. Players who previously reached that level may also request entry into this group.

Open Group B

Group B is for federated players with FIDE Standard Elo below 1900. This section gives more prize opportunities to players below the Group A rating threshold.

Rapid Tournament

The Rapid Tournament is an independent FIDE-rated event. Players may register for the Rapid Tournament alone or combine it with the Open.

Masnou Tournament

The Masnou event is free and focuses on public chess promotion. It mainly welcomes non-federated players and chess fans who want to try competitive play in a relaxed setting.

Players should complete both the online form and the payment before the deadline. Otherwise, the organizers may treat the entry as incomplete and give the place to a player from the waiting list.

The combined Open + Rapid registration gives players a discount. In addition, it gives priority if the event reaches capacity.

Players can use Torreforum, Avenida de Torrelodones 8, 28250 Torrelodones, Madrid, for navigation.

Several intercity bus lines stop near Torreforum, including lines 610, 611A, 612, 631, 633, 685, and 686. Players can also arrive by Cercanías train to Torrelodones station. From there, the venue is about 20 minutes on foot or about 10 minutes by local bus lines 1, 2, 4, or 5.

Drivers can use the parking area near Torreforum.

ℹ️ Other Practical Details

Players may not agree to draws before move 25, except in cases allowed by the FIDE Laws of Chess. The organizers will also apply fair-play and anti-cheating measures throughout the festival.

Electronic devices are not allowed on players during games. A secure deposit area will be available for players who need to leave devices before play.

The organizers also plan parallel chess, cultural, and leisure activities during the festival week.
