In addition, each section offers at least two rating prizes, depending on the level of entries. The congress also awards a best-placed Cumbria player prize in each section. However, no player may win more than one prize. There is no prize-giving ceremony, and prizes will be sent after the congress.
⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
The congress uses a 5-round Swiss system. Each player receives 1 hour and 50 minutes for all moves, together with a 10-second increment on every move. Therefore, the event follows a full classical chess tournament structure across the entire weekend.
In addition, players may take up to two half-point byes in any round. A round-5 bye must be requested by Friday at the latest. The organizers will default and re-pair players after 30 minutes. Furthermore, the regulations note that the organizers may move a player into a different section if the May 2026 rating differs significantly from previous ratings.
