I Aberto do Brasil de Solânea
I Aberto do Brasil de Solânea – O Magistral do Brasil brings a new national classical event to Solânea, Paraíba, Brazil from June 5 to June 7, 2026. The tournament joins the Circuito Nacional de Xadrez Clássico and also serves as a qualifier for the Final of the Brazilian Absolute Chess Championship.
The event uses a 6-round Swiss system with the classical 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move time control. Moreover, it counts for CBX, FIDE, and FPBX rating, so it offers strong competitive value for players from Paraíba and from the wider Brazilian circuit.
The structure is also practical for a short chess trip. In just three days, players get six classical rounds, a significant prize fund, clear bye rules, a published accommodation list, and a central setting in the Brejo Paraibano region. As a result, the tournament combines sporting importance with useful player logistics.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
The tournament runs as a 6-round Swiss event. The organizers use Swiss Manager for pairings, while every game follows the classical 90+30 time control with digital clocks.
The scoring system is straightforward. A win gives 1 point, a draw gives 0.5, a loss gives 0, a requested bye gives 1 point, and an absent bye gives 0.5. Meanwhile, tie-breaks follow this order: direct encounter, Buchholz Cut 1, Buchholz, Sonneborn-Berger, and number of wins.
Players may arrive up to one hour after the round starts. However, after that limit, the arbiter scores the game as a forfeit loss. In addition, players may request one half-point bye up to Round 3 within the published deadlines.

ℹ️ Other
Players may request one absent bye worth 0.5 point up to Round 3. For Round 1, they must send the request by 19:00 on June 4, 2026. For Rounds 2 and 3, they must send it immediately after the previous round ends.
The federation will provide chess sets for all boards. However, players need to bring their own clocks, and digital clocks have priority. In addition, players should bring a pen and keep their scoresheets correctly throughout the event.
The tournament also applies strict playing-hall rules. Players may not carry cell phones or any electronic device that could suggest moves inside the playing area. They may store a switched-off phone inside a bag, but they may not carry that bag during play without arbiter permission. Likewise, players may not leave the playing environment during the round without arbiter approval, may not analyze games in the playing area after finishing, and may not bring alcohol or smoke inside the playing area. Photos are allowed only during the first twenty minutes of each round.
Appeals follow a formal process. First, the player must submit the claim in writing to the chief arbiter within 30 minutes of the incident. After that, the player may appeal to the appeals committee. The appeal fee is R$ 500, and the committee refunds it only when the appeal succeeds or when the committee considers the motivation fair.
This Solânea open offers a strong classical weekend with national-circuit value, a broad prize structure, and useful local support for visiting players.
