⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
Classical Tournament
The 9-round classical tournament uses a Swiss System. Players receive 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, plus 15 minutes for the rest of the game.
In addition, each move adds a 30-second increment from move 1. Therefore, the main event gives players a full classical rhythm across the festival week.
Pairings and Groups
The classical tournament has three groups. Group A is for players rated 2000 or higher. Group B is for players rated 1800–2050, while Group C is for players rated below 1850.
If a player has both a FIDE rating and a Dutch KNSB rating, the organizers use the higher rating for group placement. Moreover, the July 1, 2026 rating list applies.
Byes and Default Time
Players may request one half-point bye from Round 1 to Round 6. However, this option does not apply to the final three rounds.
The default time is 60 minutes. Therefore, players should arrive at the board before the one-hour limit.
Blitz and Round Robin Events
The blitz tournament uses 13 Swiss rounds with a time control of 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment per move. It is open to all players and also includes the Dutch Student Chess Championships Blitz.
The weekday and weekend round robin tournaments use 4-player groups of similar playing strength. Each group plays three rounds, and all players must play every round.
