Northumberland Chess Association, commonly abbreviated as NCA, is the county chess organization for Northumberland, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, and the surrounding area in North East England. Founded in 1930, the association is affiliated with the English Chess Federation and the Northern Counties Chess Union.
The association coordinates competitive chess among clubs throughout the region. Its network includes clubs in Alnwick, Cramlington, Morpeth, Tynedale, Forest Hall, Gosforth, Jesmond, Newcastle, Newcastle University, Tynemouth, Gateshead, Leam Lane, and South Shields. Northumberland has a much longer chess tradition than the association’s formal history.
