The Otevřené Mistrovství České Republiky v šachu amatérů 2027 – the Open Czech Amateur Chess Championship – will take place from May 4–9, 2027 in Hluk, Czech Republic. Organized by ŠK Dolňácko, z.s., the festival combines classical, rapid and blitz championships at the Sportovní hala Hluk.

The main classical tournament is a nine-round accelerated Swiss, while separate nine-round Rapid and 13-round Blitz competitions form part of the same championship program. All three tournaments are scheduled for FIDE rating.

With a combined published prize fund of CZK 329,400, approximately $15,180, the event offers significant awards across the three formats. The classical tournament alone carries CZK 250,000 in prizes, including CZK 60,000 for first place.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

The championship festival consists of three separate Swiss-system tournaments.

Tournament Format
Classical 9-round accelerated Swiss; 60 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move
Rapid 9-round Swiss; 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move
Blitz 13-round Swiss; 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment per move

The results of all three tournaments are scheduled for submission to the relevant FIDE rating lists.

Players must meet the published amateur eligibility requirements on the applicable rating list or lists as of May 1, 2027.

The combined published prize fund across the Classical, Rapid and Blitz competitions is CZK 329,400, approximately $15,180.

In the Classical tournament, second place receives CZK 30,000 and third place receives CZK 20,000. Cash prizes extend through 30th place.

Additional Classical prizes are available for women, juniors, seniors and rating categories. The best woman receives CZK 10,000, while the winners of the published ELO 1500–1799 and ELO 1800–1999 categories also receive CZK 10,000 each.

Rapid and Blitz also include additional category and material prizes.

Prize accumulation is permitted.

👥 Sections / Groups

The championships are open to amateur players who satisfy the published rating and title restrictions.

Players must have a rating below 2300 on the applicable rating list or lists as of May 1, 2027.

The highest titles permitted are:

  • FM – FIDE Master
  • WFM – Woman FIDE Master

Players holding higher titles such as GM, IM, WGM or WIM are therefore outside the published amateur eligibility conditions.

The relevant rating system depends on the competition format, with the applicable national and FIDE Standard, Rapid or Blitz rating lists used under the championship regulations.

The reduced rate is available to players under 18, players aged over 60, women and holders of a ZTP disability card.

The sports complex serves as the playing venue and also provides accommodation, dining and recreational facilities.

Accommodation is available directly at the Sport Hluk complex.

Both published rates include breakfast and the local accommodation fee. Accommodation must be paid in advance.

Guests using the second accommodation option also have access to a kitchenette and washing machine.

The complex includes a restaurant, tennis courts, a fitness room and bowling facilities.

🚆 How to Get There

Hluk is located in the Zlín Region of southeastern Czech Republic.

For participants arriving by public transport, the organizer can arrange transport on request from railway or bus stations in Uherský Brod, Uherské Hradiště and Staré Město u Uherského Hradiště.

Players who require this service should contact the organizer in advance to coordinate their arrival.

ℹ️ Other Information

The festival combines the national amateur championships in Classical, Rapid and Blitz chess within one program.

The Czech Chess Federation’s published championship conditions require participants to remain below the 2300 rating threshold and limit eligible titles to FM/WFM or lower.

All three competitions are intended for rating submission. In addition to the championship program, the organizers have announced social activities including a wine tasting and a simultaneous exhibition.
