
The Open Dutch Rapid Championship 2027 will take place on May 1, 2027 at Carolus Borromeus College in Helmond, Netherlands. ⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
The championship is played over nine rounds using the Swiss system.
Each player receives 15 minutes for the entire game plus a 5-second increment from move one.
The tournament follows the applicable FIDE Rapid Chess rules. The published regulations set the default time at 10 minutes.
Pairings are produced using Swiss-Manager.
If players finish with the same number of points, the published tiebreak sequence is:
- Head-to-head result, when all tied players have played one another
- Buchholz
- Sonneborn-Berger
If these criteria still do not separate players, they are listed ex aequo alphabetically. Cash prizes are shared between tied players.

The detailed 2027 distribution among overall, women’s and rating-category prizes has not yet been published on the current tournament website. Therefore, prize amounts from previous editions have not been carried forward.

📍 Venue

The championship is played in the school’s sports hall. Catering is available throughout the day in the atrium, including coffee, tea, soft drinks, sandwiches, baguettes, snacks and other refreshments.
Because the playing area is a gymnasium, players and accompanying visitors are requested to wear footwear with flat soles in the tournament hall.
🚆 How to Get There
Carolus Borromeus College is approximately 100 meters on foot from Helmond-Brandevoort railway station.
The train journey from Eindhoven Centraal to Helmond-Brandevoort takes approximately seven minutes, making the venue particularly convenient for players staying in or travelling through Eindhoven.
The organizer also reports approximately 80 parking spaces in and around the school grounds. Traffic stewards will direct arriving cars to available parking spaces.
ℹ️ Other Information
The results will be submitted to FIDE for Rapid rating processing.
Under the tournament regulations, mobile phones and watches may not be carried on the player’s body during a game. Switched-off devices may be stored in a closed bag or placed face down beside the board. If an electronic device is switched on or makes a sound without arbiter permission, the player may lose the game.
A chess book and equipment stand operated by De Beste Zet is scheduled to be present during the championship.
