A.D. Accademia Scacchi Milano, commonly known as Accademia Scacchi Milano, is a chess association and FSI-recognized chess school in central Milan, Italy. The club affiliates with the Federazione Scacchistica Italiana (FSI) under club ID 9116. Its activities include FIDE-rated tournaments, national team competition, junior and adult training, women’s chess, school programs, and regular club play.

The Italian sports registry records the association from November 21, 2008. FIDE archives already identify Accademia Scacchi Milano as organizer of a rated tournament in October 2008. Since January 2011, the organization has operated from the Circolo Culturale “I Navigli” at Via De Amicis 17, close to Sant’Ambrogio in central Milan.

Francesco Gervasio currently serves as President and legal representative. The 2026 FSI registry also lists Fiorenza Viani, Gianfranco Cerè, Alberto Viotti, Roberto Montaruli, and other members of the governing council. In 2026, Accademia also introduced the Torneo Angelo Neri, dedicated to the memory of a long-standing and respected club member. The event runs from October 30 to November 1 and includes Open A, Open B, and a junior CIG competition. The two principal sections receive FIDE rating.

♜ National Team Chess and Competitive Development

Team chess forms an important part of Accademia’s sporting program. The club competes at the highest level of the Campionato Italiano a Squadre.

In 2026, Accademia Scacchi Milano participates in the CIS Master, Italy’s top national team division. Its Master roster includes strong international and Italian players, while Francesco Gervasio serves as team captain. Therefore, the club combines grassroots chess activity with competition at national elite level.

Accademia also enters numerous additional teams in lower CIS divisions. These squads include experienced adults, developing players, juniors, and newer competitors. As a result, members can enter team chess at a suitable level and progress through the federation structure.

Youth team chess has produced particularly notable results. In 2023, Accademia won the Italian U18 Team Championship with Leo Titze, Luca Di Trapani, Edoardo Greco, Gem Lacambra, and Alessandro Cervini.

🎓 Chess School and Junior Development

Junior education is one of Accademia Scacchi Milano’s core activities. The organization operates as an FSI-recognized chess school and provides several distinct training pathways.

The TUSAT – Training Under 18 Agonistica Top program targets young players who want structured competitive development. For the 2026/27 season, lessons combine group instruction with supervised training tournaments. Coaches monitor results and player development throughout the year.

In addition, the Scuola della Domenica Mattina (SDM) provides Sunday morning instruction followed by practical training games. Accademia also runs a Wednesday afternoon junior course with separate groups for beginners and more advanced young players.

Moreover, the club organizes the Challenge dei Pulcini, CIG qualification tournaments, training camps, and other junior competitions. These activities allow children to move gradually from basic instruction toward FIDE-rated and national championship chess.

♛ Women’s Chess and Accademia delle Donne

Accademia maintains a dedicated program called Accademia delle Donne, which promotes participation by girls and women in chess.

The club organizes the annual Torneo delle Mimose, training activities, women’s team competition, and coverage of its female players’ achievements. In 2026, 17 players competed in the Mimose tournament.

Moreover, Accademia entered an exceptionally young team in the 2026 Italian Women’s Team Championship. Its U18 squad had an average age of approximately 12 and included Elizabeth Canubas, Ria Arun, Nicole Pambieri, Berenice Bordogna, and Laya Arun.

The junior program has also produced strong individual results. In 2026, Ria Arun became a Woman Candidate Master while still among Italy’s youngest titled female players. Therefore, the women’s program connects introductory activity with serious competitive development.

🏫 School Chess and Community Programs

Accademia Scacchi Milano has worked extensively with schools in Milan and the surrounding area. Its instructors have delivered chess courses, supplied teaching material, and supported scholastic competitions.

The club also organizes and hosts stages of the Trofeo Scacchi Scuola, connecting school chess with the national FSI competition structure. Fiorenza Viani has played a particularly active role in this area.

Furthermore, Accademia has developed chess projects outside traditional club competition. Its historical initiatives have included chess activities in correctional institutions, cultural events, lectures, exhibitions, and collaborations with other Milan organizations.

The club’s Via De Amicis location also provides a broad social environment. Members can use the premises throughout the week for lessons, tournaments, analysis, and informal games.
