A.S.D. Circolo Scacchistico Lido dei Pini is a chess club based in Lido dei Pini, Anzio, in the Metropolitan City of Rome, Italy. The club affiliates with the Federazione Scacchistica Italiana (FSI) under affiliation code 7122. Its program combines FSI competition, FIDE-rated tournaments, regular club meetings, study sessions, and recreational chess for players of different levels.

The current club developed from informal chess activity at the Consorzio Lido dei Pini. Local players began meeting there every Sunday in February 2022 to play, discuss, and study chess. After participating in Italian Team Championship activity through other affiliated structures, a group of ten players formally established Circolo Scacchistico Lido dei Pini in December 2024. The organization subsequently affiliated with the FSI and entered Italy’s national sports association register in 2025.

Nazzareno Chiacchiarini is the club’s current legal representative and serves as the responsible official for its 2026 Italian Team Championship squad. He is also closely connected with the Consorzio Lido dei Pini, which provides the club with its regular playing base at Via dei Tulipani 8 in Anzio. Consequently, the chess club combines an independent FSI sporting identity with strong roots in the local Lido dei Pini community.

🏆 Pineta in Scacco and Tournament Activity

The club created Pineta in Scacco as its principal open tournament. The first edition took place in August 2025 at the Consorzio Lido dei Pini and received FIDE Standard rating.

That inaugural tournament featured two sections, Open A and Open B, across five classical rounds. Moreover, the organizer provided a €1,000 prize fund and used a time control of 60 minutes plus 30 seconds per move.

The club continues the series with the II Torneo Pineta in Scacco 2026 on October 10–11. For the second edition, the tournament moves to the Hotel Astura in Nettuno. Players again compete in two FIDE-rated sections across five rounds at 60 minutes plus a 30-second increment.

The 2026 edition offers another €1,000 prize fund. In addition, the organizer provides a dedicated U16 award. Oreste Iacobelli serves as the current tournament contact, while the event operates with the patronage of the Comune di Nettuno.

♜ Team Chess and FSI Competition

Circolo Scacchistico Lido dei Pini participates in the Campionato Italiano a Squadre (CIS), giving members regular experience in official team competition.

The club entered its own FSI team during the 2025 season. Its roster included Maurizio Palladini, Raffaele D’Amico, Oreste Iacobelli, Carlos Cesar Garcia Saldana, Francesco Labianca, Nazzareno Chiacchiarini, Marco Rotelli, and Giovanni Bruni.

In 2026, the club continued in the regional CIS structure and competed in Serie Lazio, Girone 10. Opponents included L’Officina degli Scacchi Aprilia, Quattro Torri – Anzio Nettuno 2, Sermoneta Viola, I Cavalli Bianchi di SiT, and Dragone Promo 1.

Therefore, the club’s members can combine individual tournament play with structured team chess under the Italian federation system.

🎓 Community Chess and Learning

Regular community chess predates the club’s formal establishment. Since 2022, players have gathered at the Consorzio Lido dei Pini on Sunday afternoons, usually beginning at 16:00.

These meetings are not limited to experienced tournament players. Instead, the organizers specifically encourage beginners to participate, exchange ideas, study techniques, and receive advice from more experienced players.

The club therefore combines rated competition with a more informal learning environment. Newcomers can begin with social chess, while interested players can later progress toward FSI membership, team competition, and rated tournaments.

Moreover, the regular Sunday program helps maintain chess activity throughout the year rather than concentrating solely on the Pineta in Scacco weekend.

🌲 Chess and the Lido dei Pini Community

The Pineta in Scacco name has a deliberate connection with the local environment. When the club launched the tournament, Nazzareno Chiacchiarini explained that the initiative also aimed to draw attention to the condition of the area’s Pinus pinea woodland.

The Consorzio Lido dei Pini has worked with the surrounding community to replace trees lost from the pine grove with suitable native species. Consequently, the tournament links its chess identity directly with the place where the club developed.

The Consorzio also supports the chess group by providing its regular meeting space. In addition, the Comune di Nettuno grants patronage to the 2026 Pineta in Scacco tournament.

This local cooperation gives the club a distinctive profile. It operates as an independent sports association while maintaining close connections with the community organizations that helped create a permanent home for chess in Lido dei Pini.
