The V Torneo dell’Epifania 2027 takes place from January 2–6, 2027, in Battipaglia, Italy. Organized by A.D.S. Café de la Régence, this fifth edition brings classical chess and a separate blitz competition to Lamberti Boutique Hotel in Campania. Players can compete in three FIDE Standard-rated sections over the Epiphany holiday period.

The classical competition features Open A, Open B and Open C, with rating ranges suited to different playing levels. Open A and B each have seven rounds, while Open C has six. All classical groups use 90 minutes per player plus a 30-second increment per move; therefore, entrants should plan for demanding over-the-board games across five consecutive days.

In addition, the organizer will hold a nine-round FIDE Blitz-rated tournament on January 4. The published regulations specify €2,350 in total prizes across the classical and blitz program, with €2,000 allocated to the classical sections. The venue, detailed round schedule, entry-fee deadlines and direct VesuS pre-registration are confirmed in the official announcement approved by the Italian Chess Federation.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

The organizers use the FIDE Dutch Swiss pairing system in the classical events. Each player receives 90 minutes plus 30 seconds added after each move, so the clock allows substantial time for calculation and positional play. The three classical groups are scheduled separately according to their rating restrictions.

Open A and B each play seven games. Open C plays six games and skips the afternoon round on January 5; as a result, all three groups share the final morning round on January 6. Players may request to enter at round two with zero points under the rules. A player arriving more than 60 minutes after a classical round begins loses by default.

Alongside the main event, the Blitz dell’Epifania runs on Monday, January 4, with nine rounds at 5 minutes plus a 3-second increment. The blitz competition is separately FIDE-rated, and participation is optional for players already entered in a classical section. The regulations specify a five-minute default time in blitz.

🏆 Prize Fund

The official 2027 regulations announce a combined €2,350 prize fund, approximately US$2,630 using an indicative November 2, 2026 exchange rate of €1 ≈ US$1.12. The classical tournaments account for €2,000 (about US$2,240), while the blitz event offers €350 (about US$390). The listed cash prizes are gross amounts, subject to applicable withholding rules, and winners must attend the awards ceremony to collect them.

Section 1st Place 2nd Place 3rd Place
Open A €375 (~$420) €225 (~$250) €125 (~$140)
Open B €187.50 (~$210) €125 (~$140) €87.50 (~$100)
Open C €125 (~$140) €87.50 (~$100) €62.50 (~$70)
Blitz €100 (~$110) €75 (~$85) €50 (~$55)

Further awards cover fourth and fifth place in Open A, fourth place in Open B, rating bands, and youth categories. The blitz prize list also recognizes leading players in specified rating groups and the best under-18 player. For all category awards and exact gross prize values, use the complete official table in the tournament regulations.

The club organizes the Epiphany tournament and is represented in the Italian Chess Federation’s club and team-competition records. Its official 2027 regulations name Giuseppe Della Rocca as the event contact.

The fourth edition took place in January 2026 at the same hotel, while the 2027 competition expands the classical schedule to seven rounds for Opens A and B and includes a separate blitz tournament. Players should use this edition’s approved regulations rather than older schedules or fee tables.

The address appears both in the tournament’s official regulations and on the hotel’s own website. The hotel is close to the Battipaglia motorway exit and offers on-site parking for visitors.

All three classical sections and the January 4 blitz event share the hotel as their announced venue. The organizer supplies accreditation instructions and participant arrangements for the competition, so visiting players should use the hotel address when planning their arrival.

The announced rates are €65 per night for a single room, €100 for a double, €150 for a triple and €200 for a quadruple. The package includes dinner on January 2 and lunch on January 3, 4 and 5, as specified in the official invitation.

Players interested in these arrangements should contact the organizer directly to request availability and confirm the applicable package and reservation conditions. The hotel is also the playing venue, making it a practical option for competitors facing early starts and two-round days.

🚆 How to Get There

Drivers can reach Hotel Lamberti from the Battipaglia motorway exit. According to the organizer’s directions, take the first exit at the roundabout onto SS18 Tirrena Inferiore. The hotel is approximately 300 meters along the road on the right, and parking is available at the property.

For rail travelers, Battipaglia railway station serves the town. The organizer’s regulations say that transportation from the station to the hotel may be arranged in advance. Contact the club before arrival if you would like to request this service; do not assume an unscheduled transfer will be available.
