The Odensemesterskabet 2026 takes place from October 9–11, 2026, at Giersings Realskole in Odense, Denmark. Frem Skakklub organizes the traditional city championship over an intensive three-day weekend.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
The organizer divides the field into groups of six players according to Danish rating. Each standard group uses an all-play-all format.
However, the organizer may use the Monrad system for the final group when the number of entries requires a different arrangement.

The tournament uses one continuous 30-second increment from the first move, including during the initial 40-move period.
⏰ Default Time
Players may arrive up to 30 minutes after the scheduled start of a playing session without automatically losing the game.
A player who arrives later than the permitted 30-minute period forfeits the game.
⭐ Rating
All eligible results count toward the Danish national rating.
In addition, groups that meet the necessary requirements count toward the FIDE Standard rating.
👑 Odense Championship Title
The winner of the highest group receives the title of Odense Champion 2026.
If players finish level on points in that group, the organizer uses Sonneborn-Berger to decide the championship title.

Players who tie for a prize share the corresponding prize money.
However, the championship title itself is not shared. If players tie for first place in the highest group, Sonneborn-Berger determines the Odense Champion.
The organizer normally pays prizes by bank transfer rather than MobilePay. Prize winners should therefore provide the necessary account information to the club treasurer.

Rather than using fixed rating sections, the organizer creates six-player groups after registration closes.
Group allocation depends primarily on the players’ Danish ratings. Therefore, competitors generally face opponents of a similar playing strength.

Frem Skakklub is a chess club in central Odense, Denmark. The club brings together competitive players, recreational members, juniors, and adults at Ungdomshuset, Nørregade 60. It participates in organized Danish chess and maintains an active program of tournaments, team matches, training, and social chess.
The club dates its establishment to November 1937. In 2022, Frem celebrated its 85th anniversary, while historical club material also records its 50th anniversary in 1987. Therefore, the organization represents a long-running part of the chess community in Odense and on Funen.
Today, Simon Hansen serves as chair of Frem Skakklub. The club’s board listing, updated in May 2026, confirms him in that position. He works alongside a board that manages the club’s competitive, organizational, and membership activities. Moreover, Frem operates within the wider structure of Danish chess and maintains connections with Dansk Skak Union and Fyns Skak Union.
🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Activity

Team chess represents an important part of Frem Skakklub’s competitive identity. The club has fielded teams at several levels of Danish league chess and has reached the country’s highest team division.
In April 2025, Frem defeated Valby 4½–3½ in a promotion playoff and earned promotion to the Skakligaen for the 2025/26 season. The club had also competed in the top division during the previous cycle. Therefore, Frem has gained experience against some of Denmark’s strongest club teams.
During the 2025/26 Skakligaen, Frem faced clubs including Hillerød, Skanderborg, Køge, Brønshøj, Fredericia, and BMS. After the season, Frem returned to the 1st Division. Nevertheless, its participation at national top-flight level demonstrates the competitive pathway available to strong club players in Odense.
🎓 Junior Chess, Training and Player Development
Frem Skakklub places substantial emphasis on chess training. The club offers junior and adult training at its premises in Ungdomshuset. Current club information lists regular Monday training, with members sharing chess knowledge and helping players improve their skills.

Frem welcomes players of different strengths, while structured training helps developing members move toward competitive chess.
