The Kronborg Chess Open 2027 will take place from May 5–9, 2027 at Comwell Borupgaard in Snekkersten, Denmark. Organized by Helsingør Chess Club, the tournament brings together titled players and club competitors in rating-based round-robin groups. The organizer presents the 2027 tournament as the 54th edition of an event whose history dates back to 1971.
The GM, IM and WIM groups begin on May 5 and play nine rounds over five days. Meanwhile, the regular Open groups start on May 6 and play seven rounds through May 9. All groups are FIDE rated, while the titled groups are designed to provide norm opportunities when the applicable FIDE requirements are met.
The tournament returns to Comwell Borupgaard, where players can also stay at special tournament rates. In addition, the hotel is only about 200 meters from Snekkersten Station, making the venue convenient for players arriving through Copenhagen or Helsingør.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
The regular Open competition uses 8-player all-play-all groups, producing seven rounds for each player. However, the lowest-rated group may instead use a Monrad system if the final number of participants requires it.
The GM, IM and WIM groups use 10-player round robins and therefore play nine rounds. Open-group placement is based on the Danish national rating system, while players with FIDE Elo ratings have those ratings converted to the corresponding Danish level. The titled groups are arranged according to FIDE ratings.
All groups use 90 minutes for the entire game plus a 30-second increment from move one. The organizer permits players to arrive up to 45 minutes late without automatically losing the game.
The GM, IM and WIM groups also use the 30-move Sofia rule, restricting early draw agreements.
🏆 Prize Fund
The registration platform advertises a total prize pool of DKK 75,000, approximately $11,290 at the current exchange rate.
