🏛️ Venue

Queen Elizabeth Stadium – 18 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong

The tournament takes place at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wan Chai. The stadium serves as a major multi-purpose sports and cultural venue in a busy central district of Hong Kong.

The area offers nearby MTR stations, public transport, shops, restaurants, and visitor services. Therefore, players should still allow extra travel time because Wan Chai can get very busy.

🛏️ Accommodation

Players should book accommodation early because hotel prices in Hong Kong can rise near major events and holiday periods.

The organizer offers special conditions for selected grandmasters. Five double-sharing rooms are available for grandmasters from December 22 to December 29, 2026. Priority for single rooms goes to grandmasters rated above 2550.

Other players should arrange accommodation independently. Since the venue sits in Wan Chai, players can compare hotels in Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Admiralty, Central, and nearby MTR-connected areas.

🚆 How to Get There

Players should travel to Queen Elizabeth Stadium – 18 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

Public transport works well for many players. Wan Chai has MTR, bus, minibus, and taxi connections.

Players arriving from Hong Kong International Airport can continue toward Hong Kong Island by Airport Express, taxi, airport bus, or other public transport. Then they can travel onward to Wan Chai and Queen Elizabeth Stadium.

Drivers and taxi users should use the full venue address. However, Hong Kong traffic can be heavy, so players should leave enough time before every round.

ℹ️ Other Information

Players must follow a smart casual or formal dress code in the tournament hall.

Players must keep electronic equipment outside the playing hall. The organizer will provide a depository at the entrance before the metal detectors.

Players and spectators must follow arbiter instructions inside the tournament hall. Otherwise, the arbiter may ask them to leave the playing area.

Hong Kong International Open Chess Championship 2026 offers a strong year-end chess event in Wan Chai, with FIDE-rated games, possible norms, two sections, and a major international playing venue.
