International Championship of Novi Sad U2400 brings a FIDE-rated classical chess tournament to Novi Sad, Serbia, from June 22 to June 24, 2026. The event takes place at Hotel Putnik, a central hotel venue on Ilije Ognjanovića Street.

The tournament forms part of a wider Novi Sad chess festival. First, the program includes junior and rapid chess on June 21. Then, the main U2400 classical tournament runs from June 22 to June 24. Finally, the blitz tournament closes the festival on June 25.

The main event offers 100,000 RSD in confirmed cash prizes, approx. USD 1,000, plus digital clocks, wooden chess pieces, chess sets, and gifts. Therefore, players get a compact classical tournament with a central venue, clear playing conditions, and additional side events.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

The main U2400 tournament uses 60 minutes plus 30 seconds increment per move from move 1. As a result, every round follows a serious classical format with enough time for calculation.

The event has 6 rounds with computer pairings. In addition, it follows FIDE rules for standard chess and counts for FIDE rating.

All players rated below 2400 may participate. Unrated players may also enter. The organizer uses the June 1, 2026 FIDE standard rating list to confirm eligibility.

A player may miss up to two games during the first four rounds. However, the player must notify the arbiter in advance to receive a half-point bye.

The main U2400 event has 100,000 RSD in confirmed cash prizes, approx. USD 1,000. The organizer also awards non-cash prizes.

🚗 How to Get There

Hotel Putnik is located in the center of Novi Sad, close to the city’s main pedestrian area, Freedom Square, and Danube Park. Therefore, players can reach restaurants, cafés, shops, and city landmarks on foot.

Players arriving from outside Novi Sad can travel through Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport and continue by road, bus, train, or private transfer. Novi Sad also has regular transport connections with Belgrade and other Serbian cities.

The rapid event is registered with a 10 minutes + 3 seconds increment time control. The blitz event is registered with a 3 minutes + 3 seconds increment time control. In addition, the junior event uses 10 minutes + 3 seconds increment and has 7 rounds.
