⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
The tournament uses a nine-round Swiss system in all three groups. Each player receives 90 minutes for the first 40 moves and then 30 more minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment from move one. The default time for a no-show is 30 minutes.
Tie-breaks follow a clear order. First comes FIDE Buchholz Cut-1, then FIDE Buchholz Total, and then average opponent rating. In addition, the event allows one half-point bye per round from rounds 1 to 5 if the player requests it on time and has already paid the entry fee.
Prize allocation also follows specific rules. Absolute prizes use the Hort system, and if players tie on points, the organizer awards half the prize money by tiebreak and splits the other half equally. Players can win only one prize.
🏆 Prize Fund
The official 2026 materials publish EUR 5,750 in Schach Tirol Open cash prizes and EUR 925 in additional Tyrolean Championship prizes for eligible Open A players, for a published total of EUR 6,675. Using the ECB reference rate of EUR 1 = USD 1.1498 on March 31, 2026, that is approximately USD 7,675. The Schach Tirol Open prize pool is guaranteed at 100 total participants; otherwise, the organizer pays it pro rata. Women’s prizes in each group require at least three female participants in that section, and the Tyrolean women’s title prizes require at least three eligible players.
