Olomouc Chess Summer 2026 – Jaroslav Fuksík Memorial runs from August 16-23, 2026. This is a chess tournament in Olomouc, Czech Republic, in 2026. The festival returns as the 27th edition of this long-running Czech Tour event and brings classical, rapid, and blitz chess together in one established summer setting.

The program includes closed GM tournaments, closed IM tournaments, the main Open Olomouc, the open Czech Senior Championships 50+ and 65+, plus separate rapid and blitz side events. The classical sections use long-play formats, while the closed groups also offer GM and IM norm opportunities.

The festival is based at Central Park Hotel Flora in Olomouc. In addition, the schedule includes a city tour, a Kroměříž excursion, and a simultaneous exhibition with GM Sergei Movsesian, so the event offers more than tournament games alone.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

The two closed norm sections use round-robin play over 9 rounds. The GM groups require an average rating of at least 2400, while the IM groups require an average rating of at least 2250. Both use a classical time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves, then 30 minutes to finish, with a 30-second increment from move one.

Open Olomouc and both senior championships use a 9-round Swiss system with the same classical 90+30 format. The waiting time for late arrival in the classical sections is one hour. The rapid event uses a 7-round Swiss system at 10+5, and the blitz tournament uses an 11-round Swiss system at 3+2.

Tie-breaks vary by section. The closed A and B tournaments use points, Sonneborn-Berger, direct encounter, and drawing of lots. Open Olomouc, rapid, and blitz use points, Buchholz Cut 1, Buchholz, Sonneborn-Berger, and the greater number of games with Black. The senior championships use points, direct encounter, Buchholz Cut 1, Buchholz, Sonneborn-Berger, and the greater number of games with Black.

🏆 Prize Fund

The confirmed cash prize fund reaches CZK 98,000, which is approximately $4,600. This total includes the published cash prizes for the GM groups, IM groups, Open Olomouc, both senior championships, the rapid event, and the guaranteed listed blitz prizes. It does not include the additional unspecified county blitz bonuses.

Open Olomouc also adds category prizes for women, juniors, and six rating bands. Both senior events include separate Czech championship cash prizes and extra category awards. Moreover, the regulations state that prize sharing follows section-specific rules, including the Hort system in several open events.

This structure makes the festival practical for several player groups at once. Strong titled players can target the norm events, club players can enter Open Olomouc, senior players have two dedicated championship sections, and fast-play specialists can add rapid and blitz later in the week.

The festival schedule is full but easy to follow. The classical sections run from Sunday to Sunday, while blitz and rapid fit neatly into the middle and final weekend of the event.

📝 Registration

Open Olomouc adds 25% discounts for FMs, registered pupils and students, pensioners, and women. The senior events also publish section-specific discounts, while CZECH TOUR repeat participants can receive growing discounts on later classical starts in the same series.

Olomouc is an important railway junction, and the main railway station lies close to the city center. From there, players can continue into central Olomouc and on to Krapkova 34. Drivers can also follow road no. 55 toward the center and then continue to the Hotel Flora area.
