♟️ About AVE CHESS z.s.

AVE CHESS z.s. is a Czech chess-event organization that manages international tournaments, multi-event festivals, and championship competitions across the Czech Republic. Its principal activities center on the CZECH TOUR series and the large CZECH OPEN festival in Pardubice. Rather than functioning as a conventional membership chess club, AVE CHESS specializes in tournament production, registrations, accommodation coordination, playing venues, international participant services, arbiting structures, and cooperation with chess federations and local partners. The organization provides competition for Grandmasters, titled players, club competitors, juniors, seniors, teams, and amateur players. Its festivals regularly include FIDE-rated classical tournaments alongside rapid, blitz, team events, rating-restricted sections, senior competitions, and title-norm opportunities. The CZECH TOUR has operated since 2001 and currently includes recurring festivals in Prague, Mariánské Lázně, Plzeň, Olomouc, Brno, Hradec Králové, and other Czech destinations. In addition, AVE CHESS organizes the CZECH OPEN, whose 2026 edition marked the festival’s 37th year. IO Dr. Jan Mazuch is the principal Tournament Director and contact person for AVE CHESS. He directed the CZECH OPEN 2026 in Pardubice and was also Tournament Director for the European Youth Team Chess Championship 2026, organized jointly by AVE CHESS, the Czech Chess Federation, and the European Chess Union. Following the completed summer festivals in Pardubice, Prague, and Olomouc, the organization’s next major events are the 15th Brno Open from October 31–November 7, 2026 and the 16th Hradec Králové Open from November 7–14, 2026.

🏆 CZECH TOUR

The CZECH TOUR is the organization’s principal year-round tournament series. It has been held since 2001 and consists of international chess festivals staged at different locations throughout the Czech Republic. Each festival normally includes at least one tournament open to a broad field of players and submitted for FIDE rating. Rapid or blitz competition also forms part of the standard program, while selected festivals add closed GM and IM tournaments, norm opportunities, senior sections, and other side events. The 2026 series included the Prague Open, Marienbad Open, Pilsen Open, Summer Prague Open, Olomouc Chess Summer, and other events. The autumn schedule continues with tournaments in Brno and Hradec Králové. AVE CHESS also integrates accommodation and tourism into many of these festivals. Consequently, international participants can arrange tournament entry and official hotel accommodation through the same organizational team.

🌍 CZECH OPEN Pardubice

The CZECH OPEN is the largest and most diverse recurring event associated with AVE CHESS. The 37th International Festival of Chess and Games took place from July 16–August 2, 2026 at enteria arena in Pardubice. Its chess program included an open Grandmaster tournament with GM and IM norm opportunities, rating tournaments, a 30+ section, the Czech Open Team Championship, a youth team event, rapid tournaments, a blitz marathon, knockout blitz, team blitz, Chess960, bughouse, and several additional formats. The main classical tournaments used nine-round Swiss systems and were submitted for both FIDE and Czech national rating. Dr. Jan Mazuch served as Festival Director. CZECH OPEN also extends beyond standard chess. Over the years, its wider “chess and games” format has incorporated additional mind sports and board-game championships, making the Pardubice festival a broader competitive event rather than a single open tournament.

🎓 European and International Championships

AVE CHESS also works with national and international chess authorities on official championships. A major 2026 project was the European Youth Team Chess Championship U12 and U18, held in Pardubice from July 25–August 2, 2026. The championship was organized by AVE CHESS z.s., the Czech Chess Federation, and the European Chess Union. Separate competitions were held for Open and Girls teams in the U12 and U18 categories. Teams representing national federations, regions, cities, clubs, and schools could participate under the published ECU regulations. IO Dr. Jan Mazuch served as Tournament Director. The event demonstrates AVE CHESS’s ability to move beyond commercial open tournaments and manage competitions conducted under European championship regulations. The organization has also participated in other major international championship projects, including the FIDE World Senior Team Championships 50+ and 65+ in Prague in 2025.

🌟 Autumn 2026 Tournament Program

The next CZECH TOUR festival is the 15th Brno Open, scheduled for October 31–November 7, 2026 at Cosmopolitan Bobycentrum. The festival includes a closed IM tournament, nine-round international Open, rapid tournament, and blitz tournament. The classical competitions use 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes, with a 30-second increment from move one. Immediately afterward, AVE CHESS will organize the 16th Hradec Králové Open from November 7–14, 2026. Its program consists of a nine-round classical Open together with separate rapid and blitz competitions. The organization already has its 2027 CZECH TOUR underway, including the 25th Prague Open in January, 25th Marienbad Open, 5th Nový Bor Open, and 15th Pilsen Open.
