Posted pairings may also be changed when necessary because of an error or unforeseen circumstances under applicable FIDE pairing rules.

Late Arrival

Players arriving more than 30 minutes late without prior notice risk forfeiting the game or having their opponent reassigned.

Regardless of whether advance notice has been provided, a player who has not reached the playing hall within 60 minutes after the round begins receives a forfeit loss.

If a player’s scheduled opponent does not appear, tournament staff may offer another opponent at an appropriately reduced time control if a suitable unpaired player is available.

🏆 Prize Fund

The tournament offers $1,900 in guaranteed listed cash prizes.

This amount covers the Championship and U1800 main prizes. U1400 receives trophies, while qualifying titled players may receive additional minimum-prize guarantees.

Players holding the title FM or higher are eligible for free entry before the late-fee deadline.

Titled players wishing to use the free-entry or minimum-prize offer should contact:

info@texaschesscenter.com

before registering.

🧩 Sections / Groups

The tournament has three sections.

Section Rating Status
Championship FIDE + US Chess rated
U1800 FIDE + US Chess rated
U1400 US Chess rated only

The U1400 section is specifically advertised as US Chess rated only and should not be described as FIDE rated.

Playing Up

Texas Chess Center allows eligible players to request a higher section.

A player qualifies to play up when the player’s:

  • US Chess monthly rating;
  • live rating; or
  • provisional rating

is within 150 points of the floor of the next section.

If a player’s live or provisional rating already reaches or exceeds the next section’s floor, the player may move up without paying the play-up fee.

Players without a US Chess rating may request section placement based on a FIDE rating or a substantiated online rating when that rating reasonably corresponds with the requested section.

Texas Chess Center publishes the following conversion formula when evaluating a FIDE rating for this purpose:

For FIDE ≤ 2000:
US Chess = -1073 + 1.5667 × FIDE

For FIDE > 2000:
US Chess = 20 + 1.02 × FIDE

Final section placement remains subject to organizer approval.

Players may choose either a three-day schedule or an accelerated two-day schedule.

Both schedules merge for the later rounds.
