Team Composition & Rating Calculation

Every team must field four players, with the option of registering a fifth player as an alternate.

The organizer uses the four highest US Chess ratings on the team roster to calculate the team’s official average.

The following conditions apply:

  • The team average must be strictly below 2200.
  • The January 2027 US Chess Rating List applies to every participant, without exceptions.
  • No team may include more than two Grandmasters.
  • Teams with an average above 2000 face an additional rating-difference restriction between Boards 3 and 4.
  • One alternate player may be registered.

The organizer’s 2027 regulations currently specify a maximum 800-point difference between Boards 3 and 4 for teams averaging above 2000. Players assembling such teams should confirm this condition directly before registering.

Team Matches

Each round consists of four individual games between the two competing teams.

The registered players form the team’s lineup, while the optional alternate provides flexibility when a regular team member cannot play.

Players should confirm the applicable board-order, alternate-substitution, and team-captain procedures through the organizer’s final tournament instructions.

🏆 Prizes & Awards

The 2027 World Amateur Team & US Team East offers an extensive collection of team and individual awards.

Parking & Hotel Transportation

Hilton Parsippany currently advertises self-parking at $19.99 per day under its standard hotel policy. Tournament-specific parking arrangements, if available, should be confirmed directly with the property.

Newark Liberty International offers extensive domestic and international connections and is considerably closer to Parsippany than the two major New York City airports.

The station is served by NJ Transit’s Morris & Essex rail network and provides connections toward Newark and New York City.

Drivers should use the official venue address for navigation:

Because Hilton Parsippany does not operate a shuttle to the major airports, visiting players should arrange their transfer in advance.

Renting a car may be particularly convenient for teams traveling together with luggage and chess equipment. Alternatively, taxis and rideshare services provide direct transfers to the hotel.

Travelers arriving during busy periods should allow additional time for road congestion around northern New Jersey.
