Ednilson Monteiro Rosas, widely known as Ed Rosas, is a Brazilian chess organizer, tournament director, licensed International Arbiter, and sports-event professional based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. FIDE awarded him the FIDE Arbiter title in 2022, the International Arbiter title in 2023, and the Associate Organizer title in 2025. His FIDE ID is 22722777, and he holds an active International Arbiter licence.

Ednilson operates Ed Rosas Eventos Esportivos, an organization that plans, manages, officiates, and broadcasts chess competitions. Its services include tournament regulations, registrations, venue coordination, arbiter teams, pairings, rating submissions, live-board transmission, video coverage, and communication with participants. The organization states that it has delivered sporting events since 2017 and uses technologies such as DGT electronic boards and idChess for tournament coverage.

Ednilson Rosas is also the exclusive representative of idChess in Brazil.

🏆 Chess Tournaments and Events

Ednilson Rosas organizes classical, rapid, blitz, youth, online, open, and title-norm competitions in several Brazilian states. He is the founder and principal organizer of the Rio Chess Open, which has developed into a major annual international tournament in Rio de Janeiro. He also organizes the Rio Chess Masters, Brazilian online championships, regional youth festivals, and events connected with the Brazilian Chess Confederation.

His current tournament portfolio includes the Southeast Brazil Youth Chess Festival 2026, held in São Paulo. The festival combines classical, rapid, and blitz championships for young players across several age categories. Official tournament records identify IA/AO Ednilson Rosas as organizer and tournament director, working with FA/AO Erick Ramos and the Brazilian Chess Confederation. Ednilson has also served as chief organizer or tournament director of the Rio Chess Open, Rio Chess Masters, Festival Sudeste da Criança e da Juventude, Sampa Chess events, Pan-American U20 competitions, and other FIDE- and CBX-rated tournaments. His responsibilities cover both sporting administration and the practical delivery of large events.

Ednilson is also responsible for the broadcast coverage of major chess events in Brazil, including the Brazil Chess Series Floripa, Manaus Chess Open, SESC Caiobá International Open 2026, Rio Chess Open, Sampa Chess Open, and other tournaments.

🌱 Chess Administration and Development

In addition to his independent event work, Ednilson Rosas holds senior positions within Brazilian chess administration. He is the President of the Chess Federation of the State of Rio de Janeiro – FEXERJ. Current federation documents issued in 2026 confirm that he continues to hold this position. He also serves as the Southeast Regional Director of the Brazilian Chess Confederation. In this role, he supports chess activity across the states of Brazil’s Southeast Region and works with federations, clubs, arbiters, organizers, players, and national tournament officials.

Through Ed Rosas Eventos Esportivos, federation administration, youth championships, international opens, and professional tournament broadcasts, he contributes to the expansion and modernization of organized chess in Brazil.
