The 44th Open Senior Individual Championship of Upper Franconia 2027 takes place from June 18–26, 2027, in Bischofsgrün, Germany. ChessOrg organizes the tournament with the Upper Franconian Chess Association at Hotel Kaiseralm.
The competition welcomes chess players aged 55 and above. Moreover, all participants compete in one nine-round Swiss-system tournament with FIDE and German national rating calculation.
Players complete one classical game per day. Therefore, the schedule leaves each afternoon free after Rounds 2–9 for rest, sightseeing, and the organizer’s accompanying program in the Fichtel Mountains.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
The organizer runs the championship over nine Swiss-system rounds. Therefore, players generally meet opponents with similar scores as the tournament progresses.
Each player receives 90 minutes for the first 40 moves. Afterwards, the clock adds 30 minutes for the remainder of the game.
In addition, every player receives a 30-second increment after each move from move one. Swiss-Manager handles the pairings, standings, and tournament administration.

Bye Requests
Players may request a bye through Round 4.
Participants who need a free round should contact the tournament organizer early enough for the request to be included in the relevant pairing.

The opening round begins in the afternoon after attendance confirmation. Afterwards, every remaining round starts at 09:00.
Therefore, participants can use the afternoons for analysis, relaxation, or activities in Bischofsgrün and the surrounding Fichtel Mountains.

Upper Franconian Senior Championship
The tournament forms the open senior individual championship of Upper Franconia. Moreover, the highest-performing qualifying participant receives the regional championship title.
Previous Edition
The 2026 tournament attracted 51 players. FM Dieter Seyd won that edition after nine rounds at Hotel Kaiseralm.
