♟️ About Chess Queens Crown Table

Chess Queens Crown Table (CQCT) is a community-driven chess initiative based in Port St. Lucie, Florida, United States. It focuses especially on women and girls while also supporting youth, families, beginners, and community chess. CQCT operates as a US Chess Federation affiliate and also participates in Florida’s organized chess community.

The initiative combines US Chess-rated tournaments, community gatherings, chess education, mentorship, youth development, and outreach programs. Moreover, CQCT creates informal opportunities for people to discover chess outside traditional club settings. Its activities include Coffee & Chess Social gatherings, beginner instruction, community partnerships, and competitive events. The organization uses the motto “Planting Seeds Through Empowered Chess.”

Ifa Halima Bumi founded Chess Queens Crown Table and remains its principal organizer and public representative. During 2026, she expanded CQCT from community chess gatherings into rated tournament organization. The inaugural Women’s & Girls Community Open took place in August. Meanwhile, the Chess Queens Crown Table Women’s & Girls Winter Bloom Open 2026 is scheduled for December 6.

👑 Women and Girls in Chess

Chess Queens Crown Table places women and girls at the center of its mission. The organization creates competitive spaces where players can gain tournament experience while building confidence and connections.

However, CQCT does not limit its wider community work to experienced tournament players. Beginners, families, and new chess participants can also join its educational and social activities.

The initiative combines competition with mentorship and leadership development. Therefore, its programs aim to strengthen both chess skills and long-term participation in the game.

CQCT also encourages women who may have discovered chess later in life. This broad approach helps create a community that includes juniors, parents, adult beginners, and established competitors.

🤝 Community Chess and Outreach

CQCT has expanded chess into everyday community spaces throughout Florida. In 2026, it introduced regular Coffee & Chess Social gatherings in Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce.

Weekly sessions have taken place at Starbucks locations in both cities. These gatherings welcome experienced players and complete beginners. In addition, families can attend and learn in an informal setting.

Founder Ifa Halima Bumi also introduced Chess Quest, a beginner chess program for children. The program forms part of CQCT’s broader youth-development work.

CQCT has also worked with organizations such as Port St. Lucie Knights Chess Club, The Gift of Chess, and other community partners. Furthermore, its Sponsor a Future Chess Queen initiative supports opportunities for women and girls.

🏆 Inaugural Women’s & Girls Community Open 2026

CQCT staged its inaugural Women’s & Girls Community Open on August 2, 2026 in Port St. Lucie.

The US Chess-rated tournament brought together players and families from several parts of Florida. Participants came from areas including Jacksonville, Orlando, Boca Raton, and Port St. Lucie. A visiting family from England also joined the event.

The tournament included separate competitive sections for different playing levels. Grace Wilde won the Women’s Open, while Nadia Rubin won the Women’s & Girls Under 1600 section.

Seven-year-old Emma Golovatch captured the Women’s & Girls Under 1000 title. Meanwhile, Bruce Kutikoff won the Community Invitational Elite Quad.

The event established the competitive foundation for CQCT’s future tournament program. As a result, the organization quickly began preparing its second rated event.

🌱 Partnerships and Development

Community partnerships play an important role in CQCT’s development. Before its inaugural tournament, The Gift of Chess offered 25 chess sets to support the initiative.

In August 2026, Lights Out Project Inc. / Sol Shine Syndicate also became a community partner and donor. Its support helps CQCT provide equipment, programs, tournaments, youth lessons, and sponsored opportunities.

CQCT has additionally received support and encouragement from organizations within the wider chess community. These connections help the initiative expand its reach without losing its community-based approach.

Consequently, CQCT’s activities now extend beyond formal tournaments. Chess appears in coffee shops, youth programs, family activities, businesses, and other community spaces.

🌟 Women’s & Girls Winter Bloom Open 2026

The next major CQCT tournament is the Chess Queens Crown Table Women’s & Girls Winter Bloom Open 2026. It is scheduled for December 6, 2026 in Port St. Lucie.

Unlike the inaugural event, CQCT hosts the Winter Bloom Open exclusively under its own organizer identity. US Chess lists Chess Queens Crown Table as the official organizer.

The tournament is intentionally limited to 24 participants. Therefore, CQCT describes it as a boutique-style competitive chess experience.

The program includes a Women’s Open and a Women’s & Girls Under 1600 section. Both are planned as five-round Swiss tournaments at G/35 with a five-second delay.

A Community Elite Quad 1000+ is also available. It uses a four-player round-robin format at G/45 with a five-second delay.

The Winter Bloom Open continues CQCT’s strategy of combining rated competition with a supportive environment. It also gives players additional tournament practice shortly before the 2026 US Chess National K–12 Grade Championships in Orlando.

🏛️ Organization and Leadership

Ifa Halima Bumi is the founder and principal organizer of Chess Queens Crown Table. She also hosts the organization’s regular community gatherings.

Her work connects chess with education, confidence building, leadership, and community engagement. In addition, she participates directly in youth chess activities and local outreach.

CQCT operates as a registered US Chess affiliate in Port St. Lucie. Its US Chess listing describes the organization as a welcoming chess and empowerment community.

The initiative also works in partnership with Port St. Lucie Knights / Jon’s Pawns for community chess activities. However, Chess Queens Crown Table now organizes the Winter Bloom Open independently.
