Klub Szachowy LASKER Barlinek is a chess club and tournament organizer based in Barlinek, in Poland’s West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The club was officially registered in 2006 and now operates as the chess section of Barlinecki Ośrodek Kultury.

The organization promotes chess among children, teenagers, and adults. It provides regular instruction, practical over-the-board play, local competitions, and opportunities to participate in national and international tournaments. Its activities take place at Europejskie Centrum Spotkań on Leśna Street in Barlinek.

The club carries the name of Emanuel Lasker, the second World Chess Champion, who was born in Barlinek in 1868. This connection gives the organization a distinctive role in preserving the city’s chess heritage while developing new generations of local players.

🎓 Chess Training and Club Activities

Klub Szachowy LASKER Barlinek runs separate activities for children and adult players. Regular meetings take place twice each week and combine practical games with chess theory, tactical exercises, and tournament preparation.

Young beginners can learn the rules, basic checkmating patterns, tactical ideas, and essential strategic principles. More experienced juniors receive opportunities to improve through structured instruction and participation in competitions. Adult members can attend club evenings for friendly games, analysis, and preparation for individual and team events.

Club president Krzysztof Wolski leads the training program and holds chess-instructor and arbiter qualifications. He also serves as the principal organizer and tournament director for many of the club’s competitions.

The club organizes several local events during the year. These have included qualification tournaments, Christmas and Easter competitions, winter-holiday chess activities, summer events, junior tournaments, and competitions connected with important dates in Barlinek’s history.

🤝 Regional and International Cooperation

Klub Szachowy LASKER Barlinek works closely with Barlinecki Ośrodek Kultury and the Municipality of Barlinek. These institutions provide organizational, venue, and financial support for chess training and public competitions.

The club also cooperates with LASKER Przelewice and other chess organizations from northwestern Poland. Members regularly participate in tournaments in Choszczno, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Szczecin, Strzelce Krajeńskie, Kołobrzeg, Myślibórz, and other regional chess centers.

International cooperation forms another important part of the club’s activity. Barlinek players have maintained long-term links with chess communities in Germany, including SC 81 Schneverdingen and SV Motor Eberswalde. These relationships support tournament participation, friendly exchanges, and German-Polish chess cooperation.

Through this network, the club gives local players opportunities to meet international opponents while promoting Barlinek as the birthplace of Emanuel Lasker.

🏆 Emanuel Lasker Rapid Chess Festival

The club’s principal international event is the International E. Lasker Rapid Chess Festival. It is organized together with Barlinecki Ośrodek Kultury and the Municipality of Barlinek.

The festival honors Emanuel Lasker and brings Polish, German, and other international players to his birthplace. The program combines an open rapid competition with a separate tournament for young players. Recent editions have also included international cooperation with the German Chess Federation and support from organizations connected with Emanuel Lasker’s legacy.

The sixth festival in 2025 welcomed more than 100 players from Poland, Germany, and Ukraine. The tournament included separate open and junior competitions, nine rapid rounds, cash and non-cash prizes, and additional awards for local and youth participants.

The 7th International E. Lasker Rapid Chess Festival 2026 takes place on August 29 at Europejskie Centrum Spotkań. The Open tournament counts for FIDE Rapid rating, while the youth section provides a separate competitive environment for players under 18.

Through this festival, weekly training, junior development, local tournaments, and international partnerships, Klub Szachowy LASKER Barlinek continues to preserve the city’s chess history and expand access to competitive chess.
