⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

The tournament uses a nine-round Swiss format. The Open section plays only on the 5-day schedule. Meanwhile, the Under 2200 through Under 1400 sections offer 5-day, 4-day, and 3-day entry paths that merge into the same section standings and prize lists.

The main classical control is 40 moves in 90 minutes, then sudden death in 30 minutes, with a 30-second increment from move one. However, the faster entry options change the early rounds in the class sections. The 4-day option uses G/60 d10 for rounds 1 and 2, while the 3-day option uses G/35 d10 for rounds 1 through 5.

The Open section uses July FIDE ratings. The Under 2200 through Under 1400 sections use the July US Chess official list, while unrated players in those sections may still be assigned an unofficial US Chess or Online Regular rating when needed. In addition, players cannot enter more than 100 points below their US Chess Online Regular rating in the Under 2200 through Under 1400 sections.

Half-point byes are allowed in all rounds. The overall limit is three byes, and only two of them may fall in the last four rounds. Players must commit byes before round four. If the Open section ends with a tie for first, the top two players on tiebreak play a speed game on July 5 at 10:00 PM for the title and the clear-winner bonus. Players should also note the strict device rule: no cellphones are allowed during play.

Prize caps also apply in the class sections for recent over-the-limit ratings, low lifetime game counts, and unrated players.

📝 Registration

The event uses online entry only. Players enter through ChessAction, and entries close 90 minutes before the relevant first round. No mail entry is available, and the organizer does not accept checks.

Re-entry restrictions matter here. Players may not re-enter from Open to Open. In addition, players re-entering the Open from a lower section must also pay the published Open surcharge unless they meet the rating exception. The event also notes that players in Under 1200 or Under 1000 may enter these higher sections separately, but not as a re-entry.
