⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

The tournament uses a 10-player classical round-robin format. Therefore, each player has nine classical games and faces every other participant once.

The classical time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with 30 seconds increment from move 1. As a result, games can become long strategic battles with serious opening preparation and deep endgame play.

The main FIDE-rated classical event runs from May 14 to May 23, 2026. In addition, FIDE lists separate playoff entries for May 23. The rapid playoff uses 10 minutes plus 5 seconds increment, while the blitz playoff uses 5 minutes plus 2 seconds increment.

💰 Prize Fund

The main tournament purse is USD 350,000.

The 2026 Grand Chess Tour also includes a USD 125,000 bonus allocation for each regular-season classical event. Therefore, the total event-related prize pool for Super Chess Classic Romania reaches USD 475,000.

A detailed place-by-place prize breakdown has not yet appeared on the official 2026 event page. However, the confirmed main purse and classical bonus allocation already make this one of the strongest classical prize events of the 2026 chess calendar.
