The 2026 South Dakota Governor’s Cup runs from October 16–18, 2026 at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center complex in Sioux Falls. Chess Weekend and the South Dakota Chess Association present the five-round classical event.

Players can choose Premier, Reserve U1800, or Booster U1200. The Premier section is FIDE rated, while the tournament also awards 80 US Chess Grand Prix points.

The organizer guarantees $12,000 unconditionally across the three sections. Moreover, both two-day and three-day schedules allow players to choose the format that best fits their travel plans.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

Three-day players use G/90 + 30 seconds throughout. Two-day players begin Saturday with two faster G/60 d5 games, then merge into the common classical schedule for Round 3.

🏆 Prize Fund

$12,000 is unconditionally guaranteed. The Premier section carries the largest prizes, while Reserve and Booster provide substantial class-level awards.
