The 2026 Fallsview International Chess Open brings a new international tournament to Niagara Falls, Ontario from November 11–15, 2026. Annex Chess Club and Niagara Falls Chess Club co-host the event in partnership with Fallsview Group at the DoubleTree Fallsview Resort & Spa by Hilton.
The festival combines a nine-round Master section designed for norm opportunities with a five-round Open event for a broader rating range. Both use classical 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment, while the Master field is built around titled players and a minimum FIDE-rating requirement.
The published prize fund is C$7,500 based on 200 entries, including a guaranteed C$2,500 first prize in the Master section. Because the overall fund is explicitly entry-dependent, the separate USD prize-fund field is left blank rather than presenting a contingent amount as guaranteed.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
Master Section
The Master competition runs nine Swiss rounds at 90+30 and is FIDE rated. The organizers advertise a norm-oriented field and plan for at least 10 grandmasters. Zero-point byes are available under the Master rules.
Open Event
The Open weekend runs five rounds at 90+30 from Friday through Sunday. It uses multiple rating sections and provides half-point bye options under the published Open conditions.
Rating & Norm Context
The Master section requires a minimum FIDE rating of 2200 except for specifically invited players. International title norms are possible only when all current FIDE requirements are satisfied; participation by titled players alone does not guarantee a norm opportunity for every participant.
🏆 Prize Fund
The organizer advertises C$7,500 based on 200 entries. The Master winner receives a guaranteed C$2,500 first prize. Other awards depend on the final field and the organizer’s published section structure.
Because the headline C$7,500 is explicitly based on entry numbers, MyChess.Events does not convert it into a fixed USD prize-fund metadata value. Players should use the organizer’s final prize table after the field is confirmed.
♟️ Sections / Groups
Master
- Nine-round FIDE-rated Swiss.
- Minimum FIDE rating 2200 unless accepted by special invitation.
- Norm opportunities subject to FIDE requirements.
- GM field promoted as a central feature of the event.
Open
The five-round Open is designed for players across a wider rating range, with rating-based sections and CFC/FIDE treatment according to the organizer’s final section rules. Confirmed details should be checked on the final registration page before entry.
Confirmed Titled Players
The advance announcement names GM Awonder Liang and GM Shawn Rodrigue-Lemieux among the confirmed participants.
