♟️ About Jugendschachverein Caissa Nidwalden

Jugendschachverein Caissa Nidwalden, also known as JSV Caissa Nidwalden, is a youth-focused chess club in Hergiswil, Switzerland. Sixteen chess enthusiasts founded the organization on June 22, 2024. Soon afterward, the club joined the Swiss Chess Federation on July 5, 2024. Therefore, its members quickly gained access to official Swiss competitions and rating events.

The club places children and teenagers at the centre of its work. However, adult players may also join and support its activities. JSV Caissa Nidwalden welcomes beginners, improving players, and experienced junior competitors. Moreover, the trainers divide participants into suitable groups according to their playing strength. This approach allows every member to develop at an appropriate pace.

Olaf Nazarenus serves as President and works as a licensed B-level coach of the Swiss Chess Federation. Sergej Khamraev also supports the training program. In addition, young members take part in club decisions through the board and voting structure. Consequently, juniors influence the organization rather than simply attending its activities.

🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Activity

JSV Caissa Nidwalden organizes official youth competitions in cooperation with the Swiss Chess Federation. In 2024, the club delivered the Swiss Girls’ Rapid Chess Championship in Stans. The event attracted 49 players across several age categories. Moreover, it gave girls from throughout Switzerland an opportunity to compete for national titles.

The club also organizes qualification tournaments for the Swiss Youth Individual Chess Championship. In September 2026, it hosts the first qualification event for the 2027 championship in Hergiswil. The tournament includes U10, U12, U14, U16, and U18 sections. In addition, every section combines rapid and standard-rated games.

Club members regularly enter Swiss youth championships, regional events, international opens, and major tournaments abroad. The organization also supports participation through coaching, game analysis, and group travel. Therefore, young players gain experience against opponents from different clubs and countries.

Team chess forms another important part of the program. The junior team won its regional SJMM group with a perfect record during its first season. Meanwhile, the adult and mixed teams progressed rapidly through the Swiss league structure. In April 2026, the first team earned promotion to the Swiss Group Championship First League.

🎓 Youth Training and Club Community

The club provides regular training in Hergiswil and Emmetten. Sessions include practical games, tactical exercises, structured analysis, and tournament preparation. Moreover, the trainers place particular value on longer games. Players must review their decisions afterward and learn directly from their mistakes.

JSV Caissa Nidwalden also actively supports girls’ chess. The organization aims to create a balanced and welcoming environment for boys and girls. In addition, it promotes equality regardless of nationality, age, or playing strength. Every young player receives attention, even when competitive results develop slowly.

Fair play remains central to the club’s philosophy. Members learn to respect opponents in both victory and defeat. Furthermore, the organization combines chess with social activities, shared tournament visits, and community events. These experiences help young members build friendships and develop confidence away from the board.

The main Hergiswil training room stands at the Matt school complex, close to Hergiswil Matt railway station. Therefore, families can reach the club easily by public transport. Above all, JSV Caissa Nidwalden connects structured chess development with youth participation, teamwork, and an inclusive club culture.

♟️ About the Swiss Chess Federation

The Swiss Chess Federation is the national governing body for chess in Switzerland. Its official names are Schweizerischer Schachbund (SSB) in German, Fédération Suisse des Échecs (FSE) in French, and Federazione Scacchistica Svizzera (FSS) in Italian. The present federation developed from the Swiss Chess Federation, founded in 1889, and the Swiss Workers’ Chess Federation, founded in 1923. Today, it represents approximately 225 affiliated clubs and more than 5,500 registered members. Moreover, the federation represents Swiss chess within FIDE, the European Chess Union, and Swiss Olympic. André Vögtlin serves as Central President.

Furthermore, it publishes the Swiss Chess Review and maintains an official national tournament calendar for clubs and independent organizers.

Youth development forms a central part of the federation’s work. It organizes qualification tournaments and national finals for the Swiss Junior Individual Championships in the U10, U12, U14, U16, and U18 categories. Moreover, the federation supports regional and national training squads, junior team competitions, coach education, and international participation. Swiss players regularly represent the country at Chess Olympiads, European Team Championships, World and European Youth Championships, and other official international events. The federation also supports elite players through national-team programs and development initiatives. Consequently, it provides a clear pathway from local club chess and junior qualification events to national titles and international representation.
