Mimosa International Horizont – Sezione Scacchi is a Milan-based chess organization affiliated with the Federazione Scacchistica Italiana (FSI) under club code 9139. The federation’s official 2026 designation is Sez. Scacchi S.S.D. Mimosa International Horizont. The chess section organizes FIDE-rated tournaments, team competition, rapid and blitz events, chess courses, and other activities across Milan and Lombardy.

The chess section operates within Mimosa International Horizont S.S.D., a multi-activity sports organization that manages sporting events and provides dedicated courses. Mimosa also runs the Centro Aggregativo Multifunzionale e Culturale Julie Oswald, which develops cultural, educational, recreational, and community activities. Therefore, chess forms part of a wider organization while maintaining its own FSI affiliation, leadership, competitive teams, and tournament calendar.

Miluska Degregori currently serves as President of the Chess Section. The official 2026 structure also names Carlo Mazzotti as Vice President. Executive councillors include Osvaldo Merlini, Carmelo Cella, Mauro Cascella, Federica Franchini, and Giuseppina Laviano, while Marco Scansani manages relations outside Milan and additional-resource development. Its recurring tournament program includes the Open d’Inverno, Festival di Primavera, Open d’Estate, and Open d’Autunno. These weekend competitions generally use FSI and FIDE regulations and give players opportunities to compete for international rating changes.

The 10° Open d’Autunno 2026, for example, takes place from October 23–25 in Milan. It consists of two rating sections and five FIDE-rated classical rounds at 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move. In addition, Mimosa handles registration, player communication, prizes, and tournament administration directly through its chess section.

During 2026, Mimosa also organized the Campionato Regionale Assoluto della Lombardia, the 9° Festival di Primavera, and the 8° Open d’Estate Mimosa/Motoclub. Consequently, the organization provides rated tournament opportunities throughout much of the calendar year.

Mimosa International Horizont participates actively in the Campionato Italiano a Squadre (CIS). FSI records for 2026 show several teams registered under the organization, including Mimosa Fighters, Mimosa Promozione 1, and Mimosa Promozione 2.

This multi-team structure allows a larger number of members to represent the club in federation competition. Moreover, Osvaldo Merlini serves as a responsible official for several of the current Mimosa teams.

The club also achieved a notable regional result during the 2025/26 season. Mimosa won the Trofeo Lombardia for the fourth time, securing the Trofeo Mason associated with the regional victory. President Miluska Degregori presented the championship trophy together with Technical Director Osvaldo Merlini.

Therefore, Mimosa combines frequent open-tournament organization with active participation in formal team competition. Members can move between individual rated events, internal club activity, and federation league chess.

Chess education represents another established part of Mimosa International Horizont’s activities. The Federazione Scacchistica Italiana currently recognizes Mimosa International Horizont SSD as a Level 1 and Level 2 chess school.

The broader Mimosa organization also identifies specialist courses as one of its principal activities. Within the chess section, this educational structure supports players who want to learn the game, improve their competitive skills, or prepare for federation tournaments.

In addition, the club’s tournament calendar itself creates regular development opportunities. Players can begin with shorter rapid or blitz competitions before entering full FIDE-rated weekend events. Meanwhile, team chess provides another route toward more structured competitive experience.

Mimosa also maintains an online chess community through Lichess. The Mimosa International Horizont-SSD Sezione Scacchi team has hosted numerous online Swiss tournaments and provides another meeting point for players connected with the organization.

🤝 Chess, Community and Regional Partnerships

Mimosa International Horizont regularly organizes events through partnerships with other community and sporting organizations. Its cooperation with MotoClub supports several Milan weekend opens, while Cooperativa Labriola hosts the recurring blitz circuit.

The chess section also organizes tournaments outside central Milan. One important example is the long-running Festival Week-End “Ricordando Stefano Leopardi” in Centro Valle Intelvi. The event reached its 11th edition in 2026.
