♟️ About the Organizer

Chess Federation of Montenegro, also known as Šahovski savez Crne Gore, is the national chess federation of Montenegro. Founded on 6 February 1949, the federation serves as the central chess institution for the country and supports the development, organization, and promotion of chess at national and international level.

The federation is connected with both FIDE and the European Chess Union, giving Montenegrin players and clubs a formal pathway into international chess activity. Its work covers national championships, youth chess, club competitions, rating administration, arbiters, trainers, representative teams, and chess development programs across Montenegro.

Based in Podgorica, Chess Federation of Montenegro works with chess clubs, players, coaches, arbiters, schools, and public partners. The federation’s activity supports both competitive chess and wider chess participation, from junior development and national leagues to international tournaments hosted in Montenegro.

🏆 Chess Events and Activities

Chess Federation of Montenegro organizes and supports many of the country’s main chess competitions. Its calendar includes national senior championships, women’s championships, youth championships, rapid and blitz events, team competitions, league competitions, cup events, and qualification tournaments for young players.

The federation is also connected with international chess events held in Montenegro. Recent and upcoming calendar activity includes events such as Montenegro Open 2026, IBCA World Team Chess Championship 2026 in Petrovac, and European chess events hosted in Montenegro. These tournaments help strengthen Montenegro’s position as an active chess destination in the Balkans and the wider European chess scene.

Through its national calendar, the federation gives players regular opportunities to compete in classical, rapid, blitz, individual, and team formats. Its event structure supports club players, titled players, juniors, women players, veterans, and players aiming to represent Montenegro internationally.

🌍 Player Development and Community

Chess Federation of Montenegro plays an important role in building the chess community across the country. Its work includes cooperation with registered clubs, development of youth chess, support for coaches and arbiters, and administration of official competitions. The federation also maintains public information for players, clubs, trainers, arbiters, and registered chess participants.

Youth chess is a major part of the federation’s activity. National youth championships, qualification events, school-related competitions, and training structures help younger players gain tournament experience and progress toward stronger national and international events. These activities create a clear development path for talented juniors and new players entering organized chess.

The federation also promotes Montenegro as a host country for international chess. With events in cities such as Podgorica, Budva, Petrovac, and Herceg Novi, Chess Federation of Montenegro connects competitive chess with attractive tournament locations and a growing regional chess community.
