6th International Chess Tournament Città di Amelia brings the Amelia Grand Chess Tour to Amelia, Italy, from July 1–5, 2026. The main Open A, Open B, and Open C classical tournaments run from July 3–5, while FIDE rapid and blitz side events open the chess week.

Classical Tournaments

Open A, Open B, and Open C use a 5-round Swiss system. Each player receives 90 minutes for the game, plus a 30-second increment from move one.

The classical sections count for FIDE and Italian Elo rating changes. As a result, the event offers useful standard-rated games for players who want a serious classical chess tournament in a weekend format.

The standings use International Buchholz. Tie-breaks follow this order: Buchholz Cut 1, Buchholz Total, and Average Rating of Opponents.

Pairings may change before a round starts. The official pairings appear one hour before the beginning of each round. The default time is 30 minutes.

Rapid and Blitz Side Events

The FIDE Rapid “Piero Ognibene” tournament uses 12 minutes + 3 seconds over 9 rounds.

The FIDE Blitz “Orlando Orlandella” tournament uses 5 minutes + 3 seconds over 9 rounds.

💰 Prize Fund

The listed cash prizes total €4,830, approximately $5,620. This total includes the Open A–C classical tournaments plus the FIDE Rapid and FIDE Blitz side events.

Trophies, medals, books, oil, wine, food baskets, sponsor prizes, lessons, and other non-cash awards are not included in the cash total.

Special Awards

In addition to the main prizes, the organizers will present handcrafted trophies commissioned by psychological rehabilitation centers. Therefore, the awards also carry a meaningful social and artistic value beyond the chessboard.

The best player from Lombardy will also receive a limited-edition AC Milan shirt signed by Modrić.

Best Game Prize

The organizers will also award a special prize for the best game of the tournament. The winner will receive a weekend in Ibiza at a 2/3-star hotel, registration for the Ibiza Chess Tournament in October, and a homemade trophy.

The organizer may admit up to five lower-rated players to Open A through wildcards.

Players who pay after June 27, 2026 should use an instant bank transfer. Italian players and foreign players resident in Italy need valid FSI 2026 membership.

Open A takes place at Palazzo Petrignani. Open B plays at Chiostro Sant’Agostino on Via Cavour, while Open C uses Seminario Contrada Collis at Piazza Lojali.

The Rapid and Blitz side events also use the Seminario Collis area at Piazza Lojali. Therefore, players should check their section and event before going to the venue.

Players should use the exact playing venue for navigation, since the tournament uses several halls in Amelia. The main venue address for Open A is Palazzo Petrignani, Via del Duomo 3.

The venues sit within Amelia’s historic area. Players arriving by car, taxi, or local transfer should allow enough time to reach the correct playing hall before accreditation and round start.

The first 12 boards of Open A, the first 8 boards of Open B, and the first 4 boards of Open C will be broadcast on Chess.com and lichess.org.

The final two Sunday rounds will include commentary on the YouTube channel “NICOLOCHESS” by FM Nicolò Napoli.

Every player in Open A, Open B, and Open C receives a tournament pack with a commemorative T-shirt.

The handcrafted cups and trophies come from local rehabilitation centers. In addition, the organizer may award medals, books, local products, food baskets, sponsor prizes, and chess lessons as non-cash prizes.

A Pairing Allocated Bye gives 1 point.
