The 4th Skyline Open invites chess players to compete in a nationally recognized tournament from October 10–13, 2025, at the Washington Dulles Airport Marriott. With a $10,000 prize fund (60% guaranteed), this event promises a weekend of exciting competition in a world-class venue. Players can choose between three-day and four-day schedules and compete across multiple sections. The Skyline Open brings together strong competition, professional organization, and a vibrant chess community in the heart of Northern Virginia.

  • Friday, Oct 10: Round 1 – 7:00 PM
  • Saturday, Oct 11: Rounds 2 & 3 – 11:00 AM & 4:30 PM
  • Sunday, Oct 12: Rounds 4 & 5 – 11:00 AM & 4:30 PM
  • Monday, Oct 13: Rounds 6 & 7 – 10:00 AM & 3:30 PM

🕒 3-Day Schedule:

  • Saturday, Oct 11: Rounds 1 & 2 – 11:00 AM & 2:00 PM (G/50 d5)
  • Saturday, Oct 11: Round 3 – 4:30 PM (G/90 + 30s)
  • Sunday, Oct 12: Rounds 4 & 5 – 11:00 AM & 4:30 PM
  • Monday, Oct 13: Rounds 6 & 7 – 10:00 AM & 3:30 PM

Players may request up to two ½-point byes (not in the final round).


🏆 Prize Fund & Eligibility

💰 Total Prize Fund: $10,000 (based on 150 entries, 60% guaranteed)

Open Section (FIDE Rated):

  • Eligibility: Peak rating 1800+ (USCF or FIDE since Jan 2024)
  • Players rated 1600–1799 may enter for an extra $100
  • Players under 1600 or unrated cannot enter

U2000 Section (FIDE Rated):

  • Eligibility: Under 2000 USCF

U1600 Section:

  • Eligibility: Under 1600 USCF

Final prize distribution will be announced closer to the event.

  • $175 by September 8
  • $200 by September 29

  • $240 onsite / online until October 10 (noon)

GMs, IMs, WGMs, and WIMs receive free entry (prize deductions apply).
