Norfolk County Chess Championships 2026 takes place on October 3–4, 2026 at Horstead Tithe Barn in Norfolk, England. Organized by the Norfolk County Chess Association, the tournament determines the county champions across several rating categories.
The competition consists of five classical rounds and is divided into Championship and Challengers sections. The top 24 entrants compete in the Championship, while additional eligible entrants play in the Challengers, subject to sufficient entries.
All games are submitted for ECF Standard rating. Players receive 90 minutes plus a 15-second increment per move, while the tournament field is limited to 52 participants.

The September 2026 ECF Standard ratings are used for tournament purposes.
Unrated players may participate if they satisfy the championship eligibility requirements. The Controller will assign an estimated rating for section allocation and tournament administration.
All tournament results will be submitted to the English Chess Federation for inclusion in the Standard rating list.
⏸️ Half-Point Bye
Players may request one half-point bye in one of Rounds 1–4.
The preferred method is to request the bye when entering the tournament.
A bye may also be requested during the event. However, acceptance of a later request is at the Controller’s discretion.
The Controller’s decision is final in all tournament matters.
🏆 Prize Fund
The organizer confirms that prize money will be awarded to the winner of each section. However, exact cash amounts have not been published.
Both section winners also receive trophies.

✅ Eligibility
The Norfolk County Chess Championships is a closed county championship, rather than an unrestricted open tournament.
A player is eligible to participate if at least one of the following conditions applies:
- The player was born in Norfolk
- The player has been resident in the county of Norfolk for at least six months
- The player is a member of a chess club registered with the Norfolk County Chess Association
In addition, every participant must be an ECF Direct Member at Bronze level or above.
Players who are unsure whether they qualify should contact the organizer before registering.
