PST Trier – Schachabteilung is the chess department of Post-Sportverein Trier e.V., a multi-sport association based in Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The department runs regular chess training, league teams, youth programs, and tournaments. Its main chess activities take place at the PST Trier facilities on Ausoniusstraße 5, 54292 Trier.

For official team competition, PST Trier also appears in federation records as part of SG PST-Trier / Bernkastel-Kues. The cooperation expands the player pool and supports several teams across different divisions.

Moreover, PST Trier has achieved strong results in regional competition. Its teams regularly compete against clubs from Trier, Schweich, Konz, Wittlich, and other communities in the region. Team chess therefore remains a central pathway from club training to formal competition.

🎓 Youth Chess and Player Development

Youth chess is one of the department’s strongest areas of emphasis. PST Trier provides regular junior training and states that chess activities are available from a very young age. Frank Görgen combines his role as chairman with direct responsibility for children’s and youth training.

The department reports that its youth program has produced Rhineland and Rhineland-Palatinate champions, as well as players who have participated in German championships and international championship events.

A particularly notable achievement came in 2014, when four girls connected with the department won the German school chess championship as the four-player girls’ team of Auguste-Viktoria-Gymnasium Trier.

In addition, PST Trier organizes dedicated events for children and teenagers. Its summer chess programs and youth city championships provide longer-time-control tournament experience alongside regular training. Therefore, young members can progress from introductory chess to rated and championship competition within the regional system.
