German Amateur Chess Championship 2026/2027 – Hannover Qualifier
The German Amateur Chess Championship 2026/2027 – Hannover Qualifier takes place from January 21–24, 2027, at the Maritim Airport Hotel Hannover in Langenhagen, Germany. This five-round classical event forms the fourth qualifier of the German Amateur Chess Championship (DSAM) 2026/2027 series. The German Chess Federation organizes seven qualification tournaments across the country before the national championship final.
Players compete in seven rating groups, from A through G, with results counting for both FIDE Standard Elo and German DWZ. The division into comparable rating bands gives experienced tournament participants and developing club players opportunities to compete at suitable levels. The organizers also welcome participants without chess club membership. Moreover, each group provides seven qualification places for the national final.
The tournament hotel stands immediately beside Hannover Airport, offering convenient air and rail connections. Thursday evening brings registration and an optional blitz competition; the main classical rounds run from Friday to Sunday. Participants can use a special tournament accommodation offer and register online before the published payment deadline of December 29, 2026.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
Every section plays five Swiss-system rounds with identical classical time controls. Each player receives 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by an additional 15 minutes for the remainder. A 30-second increment applies from the first move. Games contribute to FIDE Standard Elo and German DWZ ratings.
The default time is 30 minutes after the scheduled start of each round. Consequently, players should reach the playing area early and follow the arbiters’ instructions. The federation applies the current FIDE Laws of Chess and anti-cheating regulations. Officials may inspect bags or electronic devices as permitted by the rules.

🏆 Prize Fund
The DSAM awards merchandise, vouchers or cash prizes to the top seven players in each rating group. The three leading finishers also receive trophies, while all seven earn certificates. The federation does not publish an aggregate cash-value guarantee for the qualifier, so the tournament’s advertised awards cannot be expressed as a verified total in US dollars.

| ♟️ Three best chess clubs | Club-performance prizes |
In every rating group, the first seven places qualify for the national DSAM final. If a player has already qualified at an earlier event, the next eligible finisher advances. When no woman finishes among the seven qualifiers, the best woman receives an additional qualifying place. The organizers require prize recipients to attend the Sunday awards ceremony.
♟️ Sections / Groups
The federation assigns entrants to seven rating bands using a tournament rating figure (TWZ). The official reference lists are the German DWZ and FIDE Elo lists dated November 1, 2026. Players without a qualifying rating receive a group assignment from tournament management.
| Group | TWZ Rating |
|---|---|
| A | 2101–2350 |
| B | 2001–2100 |
| C | 1901–2000 |
| D | 1801–1900 |
| E | 1701–1800 |
| F | 1551–1700 |
| G | 1550 and below |
The seven groups share the same dates and round times. Players with ratings that qualify them for a stronger category may apply according to the official rules, while entrants who have already participated in another qualifier generally keep their group unless an upward move is approved.
