The 19th Torneo Week End Città di Bari 2026 takes place from October 9–11, 2026, at Hotel Federiciano in Valenzano, near Bari, Italy. A.D. Accademia Scacchistica Barese organizes the three-day classical tournament.

Players compete across Open A, Open B, and Open C, with sections divided by Elo rating. Moreover, all three tournaments use the FIDE Swiss system and count for standard rating changes.

The event offers a €1,410 cash prize fund / approx. $1,640, plus trophies and plaques. Hotel Federiciano also provides tournament accommodation, an on-site restaurant, free internal parking, and a dedicated 100-seat playing hall.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

The organizer runs five rounds using the FIDE Swiss system in all three sections.

However, Open A uses a longer two-stage time control, while Open B and Open C use a single-period classical control.

The tournament consists of three separate rating sections.

Each section uses its own Swiss pairings. Therefore, players compete within the appropriate rating group throughout the tournament.

Players must confirm their attendance no later than 3:30 PM on Friday, October 9.

📝 Registration

The official regulations require players to complete registration and payment no later than October 6, 2026.

Players must also pre-register through the FSI Puglia regional website. The online pre-registration forms currently remain available until October 8, 2026 at 23:59.

Entry Fees

International Masters and Grandmasters receive free entry.

The organizer may accept late or on-site registrations only when places remain available. Any registration accepted in the tournament hall carries the additional €5 fee.

📍 Venue

Hotel Federiciano – Via G. Laterza 28, 70010 Valenzano (Bari), Puglia, Italy.

The tournament takes place in the Isabella/Jolanda Meeting Room at Hotel Federiciano. The organizer provides 100 playing places.

Hotel Federiciano has a dedicated meeting center, guest accommodation, an on-site restaurant, and a bar. In addition, tournament participants can use the hotel’s free internal parking.

🏨 Accommodation

The tournament has negotiated accommodation rates directly at Hotel Federiciano, allowing players to stay at the playing venue.

All listed room rates include overnight accommodation and breakfast.

Guests can pay directly at the end of their stay by cash or credit card. Alternatively, they may pay in advance by bank transfer.

Restaurant

Tournament participants may use the hotel restaurant for lunch or dinner.

A fixed menu costs €25 / approx. $30 and includes:

By Air

Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport (BRI) is the principal airport serving the Bari area.

Official train and bus services connect Bari Airport with the central Bari railway area. From Bari, players can continue toward Valenzano by regional public transport or taxi.

ℹ️ Other Information

Half-Point Byes

Under Article 6.3 of the RTF regulations, players may request a half-point bye for one of the first three rounds.

Half-point byes are not available for Rounds 4 or 5.

Players must inform both the organizer and the arbiters before the tournament begins, specifying the requested round.

Default Time

Players may arrive up to 60 minutes after the scheduled start of a round.

A player who arrives more than 60 minutes late automatically loses the game by forfeit.

Players must also notify the organizer and arbiters of any planned forfeit before pairings for the following round are prepared.

FSI Membership

Italian players and foreign players resident in Italy must hold a valid 2026 Federazione Scacchistica Italiana membership when the tournament begins.

The organizer cannot process FSI membership applications in the playing hall.

Electronic Devices

Electronic devices are prohibited inside the competition area. This includes mobile phones, smartphones, and devices capable of providing chess analysis.

Any violation may result in sanctions under the applicable FIDE and FSI regulations.

Smoking

Smoking is strictly prohibited in the playing hall. This rule also applies to electronic cigarettes.

Accessibility

Players with disabilities or specific playing requirements should inform the organizer in advance. Therefore, the organizers and arbiters can arrange any necessary assistance.

Photography & Personal Data

By entering the tournament, participants accept the publication of tournament-related information such as their name, category, province, and results.

The regulations also authorize photo and video coverage of the event. For minors, the organizer treats registration by a parent or legal guardian as consent.

Award Ceremony

The award ceremony takes place after Round 5 on Sunday, October 11.

Prize winners must be present in the playing hall to receive their awards.
