Tapolca Városi Sportegyesület Sakk Szakosztály is the chess section of Tapolca Városi Sportegyesület. The organization is based in Tapolca, Hungary. Organized chess in Tapolca began on November 7, 1969. The original section formed within Mereszjev Sportegyesület at the Tapolca Garrison Club. It soon became one of the region’s leading chess organizations. In 1974, its team reached Hungary’s NB I national division. Therefore, Tapolca developed a strong reputation within Hungarian team chess.
The modern chess section operates within Tapolca Városi Sportegyesület. The wider sports association was founded on October 25, 2001, with chess among its founding sections. Today, the chess section preserves the traditions of its predecessor. At the same time, it develops new opportunities for adults and juniors. Soós András has served as Chess Section Leader since 2024. In addition, he became a member of the association’s board in 2026.
