Japan Chess Classic 2026 will take place from August 9–12, 2026 at Osaka City Central Public Hall in Osaka, Japan. The seven-round national and international open brings players to one of Osaka’s best-known civic landmarks.

Moreover, the tournament uses a seven-round Swiss system and may adopt accelerated pairings when the field exceeds 128 players. Players receive 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment from move one. The organizer submits results for FIDE Standard and Japanese national ratings.

In addition, the top five eligible Japanese players earn seeded places for the Japan Chess Championship 2027, while multiple rating and regional prize categories broaden the awards. The published cash awards total at least JPY 250,000 / approx. $1,550.

Meanwhile, the historic public hall sits in Nakanoshima and offers excellent rail and subway access. Three nearby stations connect the venue with central Osaka, Shin-Osaka and the wider Kansai region.

Therefore, players should review the registration rules, schedule, accommodation conditions and official documents before making travel arrangements. The organizer limits the field to 180 players and applies separate registration rules for JCF members and foreign-chess-nationality participants.
