⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
Players receive 90 minutes for the game, plus a 30-second increment from move one. This time control applies to both Master Open and Expert Open.
Both sections use the Swiss Dutch FIDE system. In addition, both sections count for FIDE standard rating, Swiss national rating, and DWZ rating.
The Master Open has 9 rounds. Players in this section may request one half-point bye during the first seven rounds.
The Expert Open has 7 rounds. Players in this section may request one half-point bye during the first five rounds.
The first technical tie-break criterion is Buchholz Total. Therefore, players should expect final ranking to follow score first and then the published Buchholz-based criteria.

The festival has two classical sections.
Master Open is for players rated at least 2000 FIDE Elo. It offers 9 rounds and the strongest playing field in the festival.
Expert Open is for players rated up to 2100 FIDE Elo. It offers 7 rounds and gives club players a strong FIDE-rated post-Christmas tournament.
Players should check their FIDE rating before entering. The overlap between the two rating ranges allows some players near the boundary to choose the section that best fits their goals and eligibility.
