⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

The tournament uses a 9-round Swiss system. Each player receives 90 minutes for the full game plus a 30-second increment from move one. Therefore, the event follows a full classical chess tournament structure from the opening round to the final game.

In addition, the latest FIDE rules apply throughout the event. The default time is 15 minutes from the scheduled start of the round, so players who arrive later lose the game. The published tie-break system is Buchholz, and the regulations also state that prizes are not shared.

Indian players must complete AICF registration for 2026-27. Likewise, Tamil Nadu players must complete TNSCA registration, while Chengalpattu district players must complete CGDCA registration. Players who want to challenge a chief arbiter decision must submit a written protest within 15 minutes together with a protest fee of ₹1,000. Before play begins, the organizers will also form an appeals committee from the senior participants present at the players’ meeting.

Wristwatches and electronic devices are restricted inside the playing hall. If a player wears a watch or brings an unauthorized electronic device into the hall, that violation leads to loss of the game.

📂 Sections / Groups

The tournament is played as one main open section. In addition, the prize structure includes rating awards, women’s prizes, veteran prizes, specially challenged prizes, and junior trophy categories.
