The T-RERA Chess Festival 2026 – Open, Rapid & Blitz will take place in Agartala, Tripura, India, from November 4–10, 2026. The festival combines three separate FIDE-rated competitions at the NSRCC Indoor Stadium: the 3rd T-RERA Open, the 2nd Shefali Memorial Rapid and the inaugural T-RERA Blitz.

The main competition is the 9-round FIDE-rated Standard Open, played from November 4–10 at 90 minutes + 30 seconds per move. A FIDE-rated Rapid tournament takes place on November 7–8, while the festival concludes with a 9-round FIDE-rated Blitz tournament at 3+2 on November 10.

Across the three competitions, the organizers advertise ₹480,000 in cash prizes plus 99 trophies. Each event has its own entry fee, registration form and registration deadline, so players intending to participate in the complete festival must register for each competition separately.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

The festival contains three independent FIDE-rated Swiss tournaments rather than three sections sharing the same standings.

Event Playing Format
3rd T-RERA Open 9-round Swiss · 90 minutes + 30 seconds per move
2nd Shefali Memorial Rapid FIDE-rated Rapid · Swiss System
1st T-RERA Blitz 9-round Swiss · 3 minutes + 2 seconds per move

The Open and Blitz tournament files confirm international FIDE rating calculation. The Rapid event is also registered as a FIDE-rated Rapid competition under FIDE Event ID 499400.

Each competition has its own pairings, results and Chess-Results page. Therefore, players taking part in more than one format should make sure they follow the correct tournament file throughout the festival.

📍 Venue

NSRCC Indoor Stadium – NSRCC Sports Complex, Netaji Chowmuhani, Agartala, West Tripura 799001, India.

The Netaji Subhas Regional Coaching Centre is a major indoor sports complex in central Agartala. All three T-RERA competitions use the same NSRCC venue.

Because the festival lasts a full week and includes both morning and afternoon Standard rounds, staying in or close to central Agartala can significantly reduce daily travel time.

🏨 Accommodation

No official tournament accommodation package has been verified. However, several practical hotels are available in central Agartala and the Dhaleswar area close to the NSRCC zone.

Hotel Area / Notes Approx. Current Price
Hotel Rimi International Maharaja Bir Bikram Sarani, Shiv Nagar / Dhaleswar Check live rate
Hotel Haven Intercontinental Sakuntala Road, central Agartala About $31/night
Hotel Sonar Tori Ronaldsay Road, central Agartala About $33/night

These prices are indicative current search rates only and are not tournament rates. Actual November prices may vary by room type, availability and cancellation conditions.

🚆 How to Get There

From Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport

Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport (IXA) is the main airport serving Agartala. The Airports Authority of India places the airport approximately 10.5 km from central Agartala.

The airport has prepaid taxis, auto taxis, private cars and private bus services. For players carrying luggage, a prepaid taxi or private car is the most straightforward option for reaching the NSRCC area.

Travel time depends on local traffic, so players arriving on a playing day should leave a generous margin before reporting or the start of a round.

By Train

Agartala Railway Station is located approximately 5.5 km from central Agartala and connects the Tripura capital with the wider Indian rail network.

Government transport planning documents note that the station has vehicle pick-up and drop-off areas, although public-transport connectivity from the station remains limited. Therefore, a taxi or auto-rickshaw is the most practical final connection to NSRCC for players with luggage.

By Road

Agartala is connected by road with other parts of Tripura and with Assam through the regional highway network.

Within the city, common transport options include buses, auto-rickshaws, taxis, jeeps and private cars. Players should give the driver the NSRCC / Netaji Chowmuhani destination rather than relying only on the tournament name.

International and Long-Distance Arrivals

Players travelling from other parts of India will usually find flying to Agartala the simplest option. Rail connections are also available from the national network, including services connecting Tripura with major cities through the Northeast Frontier Railway system.

For anyone entering all three tournament formats, arriving before November 4 and staying through November 10 avoids repeated long-distance travel between the separate Open, Rapid and Blitz events.
