⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

The circuit includes two classical stages and three rapid stages. Therefore, players can compete in different formats while still collecting points for the same overall ranking.

The final Grand Prix ranking uses each player’s best four results. Moreover, classical-stage tournament points carry extra weight because the score earned inside a classical event is multiplied by two in the circuit calculation.

Stage points are awarded by final placement. In classical stages, first place gives 50 Grand Prix points, second gives 40, and third gives 32. In rapid stages, first place gives 25 points, second gives 20, and third gives 16. The scale then continues down to 15th place.

If a registered player cannot reach round 1 for a well-justified reason, that player must notify the organizers in advance and may receive a half-point bye. In addition, stage organizers may allow up to two half-point byes in the first six rounds of the tournament they run.

👥 Organizer

Romanian Chess Federation organizes Romania Grand Prix 2026 and oversees the full circuit through its national competition framework. The federation runs a five-stage series that blends rapid and classical chess, supports season-long competition across Romania, and maintains the official technical rules for the circuit. In addition, the circuit has dedicated contact points for the stages and the general coordination of the series.

🏨 Venue

Romania Grand Prix 2026 takes place across five host cities in Romania: Bucharest, Brașov, Alba Iulia, Arad, and Craiova. The official circuit information confirms Bucharest as one of the flagship stops, while each stage is organized as its own standalone tournament within the wider Grand Prix framework.

Because the circuit stretches from May to September, players can plan one event or build a longer seasonal campaign across multiple Romanian destinations. As a result, the series offers both single-stage flexibility and full-circuit continuity.

🚗 How to Get There

Players should travel directly to the official host city of each stage and complete registration through the FRȘah platform before the deadline announced in that stage’s invitation. Therefore, the circuit schedule makes it possible to target a single weekend rapid event, a longer classical stage, or several tournaments across the season.

This Romanian circuit offers a strong mix of major prizes, federation support, and multi-city competition for players who want a serious season-long chess challenge in 2026.

🧾 Other

A dress code applies at each stage, and the specific standard will be stated in the invitation for that tournament. During classical events, flash photography and filming are allowed only in the first 10 minutes of the round. After that point, silent cameras and video recording without flash may be used only with arbiter permission.

If a player fails to appear for a game without a well-justified reason, the player may be eliminated from the tournament and excluded from the Romania Grand Prix circuit. In addition, the circuit officials validate the results after each stage and publish updated Grand Prix points after receiving the official reports.
