♟️ About Fejér Megyei Sakkszövetség

Fejér Megyei Sakkszövetség is the regional chess federation responsible for organized chess activity in Fejér County, Hungary. Based in Székesfehérvár, the federation coordinates county championships, team competitions, youth events, school chess tournaments, and FIDE-rated competitions. It also works with chess clubs, schools, municipalities, and tournament organizers throughout the county.

The federation maintains a broad competitive program rather than focusing on a single annual event. Its activities include the Fehérvár Kupa, the Fejér County Individual Championship, county team leagues, school chess championships, youth competitions, and regional tournament series. Moreover, it publishes regulations, results, and tournament information through its dedicated website.

Following the federation’s May 19, 2026 election meeting, Vágvölgyi László continues as President, while Fehérvári István serves as Secretary General. Fehérvári also plays a central operational role in the federation’s tournaments and acts as the principal public contact for the XXIII Fehérvár Kupa. His involvement covers tournament administration, school championships, county competitions, and communication with players and clubs.

🏆 Fehérvár Kupa and County Championships

One of the federation’s principal competitions is the Fehérvár Kupa, an international FIDE-rated tournament held in Székesfehérvár. The event reaches its 23rd edition in 2026.

The XXIII Fehérvár Kupa takes place from October 23–26, 2026, at the Castrum Hotel. Players compete over seven Swiss-system rounds with a classical time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move. In addition, the competition simultaneously serves as the Fejér County Individual Chess Championship.

The federation funds the organization and prize structure of the event. The 2026 tournament offers prizes for the overall standings as well as separate awards for women, juniors, seniors, children, and eligible Fejér County competitors. Moreover, the event accepts international participants and receives FIDE rating.

International Arbiter Kovács Klára serves as arbiter for the 2026 edition, while Fehérvári István handles additional tournament information and player communication.

♜ County Team Chess and Club Competition

Fejér Megyei Sakkszövetség also administers an extensive county team championship structure. During the 2025/26 season, competitions operated in both Division I and Division II.

Division I included teams representing established chess centers such as Fehérvár SE, MartonVál-Királysakk SE, Bástya DUSE, Móri SE, and Bodajk SE. Meanwhile, Division II provided additional competition for clubs and development teams from across the county.

The second division included teams such as Fehérvár Ifi, Fehérvár Király, Fehérvár Vezér, Seregélyesi SE, Bodajk SE, Bástya DUSE, and several MartonVál formations. Therefore, the county structure creates opportunities not only for leading players but also for juniors and developing competitors.

Moreover, federation events connect clubs from Székesfehérvár, Dunaújváros, Mór, Martonvásár, Bodajk, Seregélyes, and other communities. This club network forms the foundation of regular competitive chess throughout Fejér County.

🎓 School Chess and Youth Development

School chess is one of the federation’s most substantial areas of activity. Fejér Megyei Sakkszövetség organizes the county stages of the Hungarian Chess School Olympiad, including both individual and team competitions.

The 2025/26 county individual finals took place in Dunaújváros at Vasvári Pál Primary School and Sports School. Approximately 250 young players entered, making the competition one of the largest county school-chess events in Hungary.

The team championship also attracts substantial participation. A recent county team final brought together 26 school teams, with qualification for the national final at stake.

The federation rotates major school competitions among communities including Mór, Székesfehérvár, Martonvásár, and Dunaújváros. Consequently, organized junior chess reaches schools across different parts of Fejér rather than remaining concentrated in the county capital.

In addition, the federation supports competitions specifically designed for developing young players. Its program has included the Fejér County Youth Individual Tournament for players below 1800 Elo, giving less experienced competitors an additional step between school chess and stronger open tournaments.

🤝 Regional Tournaments and Chess Development

Beyond its principal championships, Fejér Megyei Sakkszövetség works with local clubs, municipalities, schools, and cultural organizations to expand tournament chess throughout the county.

Its competition calendar has included events in communities such as Hantos, Martonvásár, Perkáta, Mór, Rácalmás, Dunaújváros, and Székesfehérvár. Several tournaments form part of local rapid or youth competition series. Therefore, players can compete regularly without relying only on national-level events.

The federation also supports established local tournaments and memorial competitions. These partnerships give smaller chess communities access to experienced organizers, arbiters, regulations, and tournament administration.

At the same time, the Fehérvár Kupa provides the federation with an international FIDE-rated event in the county capital. Together with team leagues, school chess, and local tournaments, it creates a competitive structure that serves players from beginner level through internationally rated chess.
