♟️ About T-RERA – Tripura Real Estate Regulatory Authority
T-RERA, formally the Tripura Real Estate Regulatory Authority, is a statutory organization of the Government of Tripura based in Agartala, India. Its principal public mandate is the regulation and promotion of the state’s real estate sector under India’s Real Estate (Regulation and Development) framework. However, T-RERA has also become directly involved in organized chess through a recurring series of FIDE-rated tournaments in Tripura. The authority began functioning in December 2019 and operates from Agartala. Alongside its regulatory responsibilities, T-RERA has supported public-awareness and community initiatives, and its chess program has developed into one of its most visible sporting activities. Official tournament material uses the same T-RERA identity and logo as the Tripura Real Estate Regulatory Authority. For its chess events, SNA Priyabrata Bhattacharya serves as a principal organizational contact and Tournament Director. T-RERA works under the chess framework of the All India Chess Federation (AICF), FIDE, and the All Tripura Chess Association (ATCA) when staging internationally rated competitions.🏆 T-RERA Chess Tournaments
The recurring T-RERA International Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament began in 2025 at the Netaji Subhas Regional Coaching Centre in Agartala. The inaugural edition ran from January 30 to February 3 and attracted 200 players from different parts of India. FM Joydeep Dutta won the nine-round tournament after scoring 7.5/9, while IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni and Arpan Das finished with the same score. The first edition offered a total prize fund of ₹230,000 and provided Tripura players with the opportunity to compete against stronger rated opponents from several Indian states. The event used a classical time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment and was submitted for international rating. T-RERA returned with the 2nd T-RERA International Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament in December 2025. That edition attracted 166 players, with Indrajeet Mahindrakar winning the tournament ahead of Iftikar Alom Mazumdar and Kishan Kumar. The published prize fund increased to ₹326,000, demonstrating the continued expansion of the series.🌍 T-RERA Chess Festival 2026
The organization expands the concept substantially with the T-RERA Chess Festival 2026, scheduled for November 4–10, 2026, at the NSRCC Indoor Stadium in Agartala. The festival combines three separate FIDE-rated tournaments. The 3rd T-RERA Open is a nine-round Standard competition with ₹400,000 in cash prizes and 33 trophies. The 2nd Shefali Memorial International Open Rapid adds another ₹40,000 and 33 trophies, while the inaugural T-RERA International Open Blitz offers the same prize and trophy structure. Across the complete festival, T-RERA advertises ₹480,000 in cash prizes and 99 trophies. Standard, Rapid, and Blitz each have separate FIDE event registrations, standings, entry procedures, and rating calculations. This multi-format structure represents the largest T-RERA chess program organized so far. The organizing team includes Tournament Director SNA Priyabrata Bhattacharya and Chief Arbiter IA Anupam Bhattacharjee. Registration support is also provided by FA Panna Ahmed, Dr. Jayanta Saha, and Setu Ranjan Das.🌱 Community & Chess Development
The T-RERA tournaments give players from Tripura access to FIDE-rated competition within their home state while also attracting participants from neighboring regions and other parts of India. Junior players feature prominently in the starting lists, and the broad trophy structures provide additional recognition across age and performance categories. Holding the events at NSRCC in Agartala also creates a consistent tournament base. The same venue has been used for successive T-RERA competitions, allowing the series to build continuity while expanding from a single classical tournament into a complete chess festival. The progression from the inaugural 2025 Open to the expanded 2026 Standard, Rapid, and Blitz program shows a clear commitment to recurring chess organization. Although T-RERA’s primary institutional role remains real estate regulation, its tournament series has developed into a recognizable part of the competitive chess calendar in Tripura.
