Tours et Détours – Club d’Échecs du Centre Brie is a chess club based in Rozay-en-Brie, Seine-et-Marne, France. The tournament has grown steadily. The 8th Open Rapide Tours et Détours, held in October 2025, attracted 101 players, setting a new participation record for the event. International Master Thomas Decugnières won that edition. Moreover, the tournament served as the Seine-et-Marne Individual Rapid Chess Championship.

The Open Rapide Tours et Détours 2026 takes place on October 25, 2026. The FFE homologated the nine-round rapid tournament for FIDE rating, while the Comité Seine-et-Marnais du Jeu d’Échecs again recognizes it as the departmental rapid championship. Francis Beley serves as organizer and arbiter.

The club has also organized the Open de Seine-et-Marne, giving players another opportunity to compete in longer time controls. Therefore, Tours et Détours contributes to both rapid and classical tournament chess within Seine-et-Marne.

🏃 ChessRunning and Innovative Events

Tours et Détours has expanded its tournament program through ChessRunning, a competition that combines chess with running. The club launched the format locally in 2024 in cooperation with AS Fontenay-Trésigny Athlétisme.

The competition alternates chess rounds with running stages. Consequently, participants must combine calculation and concentration at the board with physical endurance away from it. The chess component also receives official rating when organized as an approved FIDE blitz tournament.

After editions in 2024 and 2025, Tours et Détours schedules another Open de ChessRunning for October 24, 2026. Francis Beley represents the chess club as organizer, while AS Fontenay-Trésigny Athlétisme manages the athletics component.

The event demonstrates the club’s willingness to introduce new formats alongside traditional tournament chess. Moreover, it creates a distinctive sporting activity that connects the local chess and athletics communities.

🎓 Chess Training and Player Development

Chess education forms a substantial part of the club’s weekly program. Tours et Détours offers free introductory instruction on Friday evenings, allowing beginners to learn the fundamentals before progressing toward regular club play.

Young players can attend additional Wednesday afternoon training. Meanwhile, stronger competitive members receive advanced instruction from FIDE Master Hayk Mirimanian. The program combines in-person sessions with selected online training.

The club also supports juniors who compete beyond Rozay-en-Brie. It accompanies young members to departmental, regional, and French championships. Therefore, children can progress from their first lessons to structured competitive chess within the same organization.

Tours et Détours also participates in team competitions for adults and juniors. These events give members regular experience representing the club against other organizations within the French chess structure.

🧒 School Chess and Community Activity

The club extends chess education beyond its own premises. Its instructors introduce chess to pupils in Rozay-en-Brie, Lumigny-Nesles-Ormeaux, and neighboring communities.

These school activities teach the fundamentals of chess while also encouraging participation in scholastic championships. Moreover, the program helps the club reach children who may not initially encounter chess through a traditional chess association.
