⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
Playing Format
Players receive 90 minutes for the game, plus a 30-second increment from move 1. Therefore, the event gives enough time for serious calculation and full classical play.
Categories A, B, and C use the Swiss System with 9 rounds. In addition, the first three rounds in these Elo categories use the Baku Accelerated System.
Category D also uses the Swiss System with 9 rounds. However, this group counts only for national rating.
Meanwhile, Categories A, B, and C count for both FIDE Elo and national rating. As a result, most international players can combine competitive games with rating opportunities.
Pairing and Tie-Break Rules
Swiss-Manager handles the pairings. Also, the starting list uses each player’s highest available rating, either national rating or FIDE Elo.
The tie-break order is direct encounter, Buchholz-1, Sonneborn-Berger, average opponents’ Buchholz, number of wins, and drawing of lots. Therefore, players should follow every round carefully because several tie-break layers may affect final prizes.

The top three players in each category receive trophies. In addition, prize winners receive medals.
