Sol Oriens Kft. is a Hungarian chess tournament organizer active primarily in Törökszentmiklós and Szolnok, Hungary. The organization focuses on over-the-board competition and works with local cultural institutions to stage FIDE-rated classical and rapid tournaments. Its events include the Szentmiklós Open series, Szentmiklós Rapid Open, and Szolnok Agóra tournaments. Dr. Árpád Szalóki is the principal chess organizer behind Sol Oriens and serves as Tournament Director for its major events. Current 2026 tournament records consistently identify him as the main organizer and publish the same direct email address and telephone number for player enquiries. Sol Oriens works closely with local partners rather than operating as a traditional membership chess club. In Törökszentmiklós, it cooperates with the Ipolyi Közművelődési Központ, while its Szolnok events are organized with the Aba-Novák Agóra Cultural Centre. This model has allowed the organization to develop both international FIDE-rated tournaments and accessible amateur competitions.

🏆 Szentmiklós Rapid Open

The Szentmiklós Rapid Open is one of Sol Oriens’s established tournament series. The 6th Szentmiklós Rapid Open took place on January 17, 2026 in Törökszentmiklós. It was a nine-round FIDE-rated rapid tournament using a time control of 12 minutes plus a 3-second increment per move. Sol Oriens Kft. was the official organizer, Dr. Árpád Szalóki served as Tournament Director, and FIDE Arbiter Zsolt Szabó was Chief Arbiter.

⚡ Szolnok Agóra Chess Events

Sol Oriens also organizes tournaments in nearby Szolnok. In June 2026, it co-organized the 4th Szolnok Agóra Amateur Rapid Open together with Aba-Novák Agóra Kft. The event provided separate competition groups and was specifically designed for amateur and developing players. Dr. Árpád Szalóki again served as Tournament Director and registration contact, demonstrating his continuing operational role across Sol Oriens events.

🌍 Szentmiklós Open

The Szentmiklós Open is Sol Oriens’s principal international classical tournament. The first edition took place from August 21–24, 2025 at the Ipolyi Cultural Centre in Törökszentmiklós. Sol Oriens organized the tournament together with the cultural center, with Dr. Árpád Szalóki as Main Organizer. The 2nd Szentmiklós Open takes place from August 27–30, 2026 at the same venue. The FIDE-rated competition consists of seven Swiss-system rounds with a time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move and a prize fund of 1,300,000 HUF. The 2026 tournament has developed into an international event, with the current entry list representing numerous federations and including Grandmaster-level and other titled competitors. A blitz side event is also included in the tournament program.
