Singapore Chess Federation (SCF)

♟️ About the Organizer

Singapore Chess Federation (SCF) is the national chess federation of Singapore and the principal authority over chess events in the country. Founded in 1949, SCF is affiliated with the World Chess Federation, FIDE, and is also connected with Singapore’s national sports structure. The federation is registered as a society and operates as a non-profit organization with charitable status.

SCF plays a central role in the development, organization, and promotion of chess in Singapore. Its activities cover national championships, school competitions, youth events, training programs, FIDE ID administration, chess education, and community outreach. The federation’s stated vision is to nurture, promote, and sustain a thriving and inclusive chess community while supporting sports excellence for Singapore.

Based at the Singapore Intellectual Games Centre in Bishan, SCF serves players, schools, clubs, trainers, arbiters, and the wider chess community. The federation supports both competitive and educational chess, creating pathways for young players, elite players, and adult participants. Through its tournaments, training squads, and outreach programs, SCF remains one of the most important chess institutions in Southeast Asia.

🏆 Chess Events and Activities

Singapore Chess Federation organizes and supports a wide range of chess events in Singapore. Its official tournament calendar includes SCF tournaments, national events, school championships, rapid and blitz competitions, age-group tournaments, and other chess activities held across the country.

Confirmed SCF events include the National Championships, National Rapid Chess Championships, National Inter-School Team Chess Championships, National Age Group Chess Championships, SCF SG Chess League, and regular blitz and rapid events. These events give players opportunities to compete in different formats, including classical, rapid, and blitz chess. Some competitions are FIDE-rated, while others focus on school, youth, team, or community participation.

SCF also manages important chess development structures such as the National Junior Squad and National Training Programme. These programs support players from younger age groups through to national squad level and provide a structured pathway for talented players who want to improve and compete in stronger events.

🌍 Player Development and Community

Singapore Chess Federation combines tournament organization with broader chess development. Its work includes training courses, national squads, youth development, school initiatives, and community programs. SCF’s outreach activities include chess programs for underserved families, chess-in-schools initiatives, ParaChess support, and rehabilitation programs connected with the Singapore Prison Service.

This broad approach makes SCF more than a tournament organizer. It is also an educational and community chess institution. The federation works to make chess accessible to new players while also supporting serious competitors who aim to represent Singapore in international events.

Through its national events, training structure, and community programs, Singapore Chess Federation helps strengthen the chess ecosystem in Singapore. Its activities support beginners, juniors, school players, club players, titled players, coaches, arbiters, and families, while promoting chess as both a sport and a valuable educational activity.
